Bet these work on splits better than the tongs.
    & glove savers too.
Was gonna try them but got the tongs.

May be makable with a piece of hydraulic hose ,
if I could figure a way to hold the hooks

The two tongs I have are both 12" and work great for pieces down to 4-5 inches. Highly recommend getting the 12 inch ones.

I have a 12'' and an 8'' tong and wouldnt be without them. I use the 8''for picking splits out of the pile and pulling splits from the splitter(keeps the hands out of harms way) and usually carry them in my back pocket when cutting, felling, etc. I think the 12''tongs are the best for getting rounds up to the splitter and they will grip bigger pieces far better than the 8''(obviously). Never heard of it. Looks thick. Might prove to be interesting.

Oh yeah. If the wood is not too heavy, having one in each hand is great. You grow straighter too.

Good question. I wondered about that same thing and just ordered one to start with. Found I could use them down to about a 4" piece of wood if you are careful. Sometimes with the small stuff rather than grabbing in the center, I'll grab more toward the end and as the stick is out of balance the tongs seem to hold them better but most stuff, just grab in the center. Using 2 sets of tongs is really the best. I'd recommend the larger tongs.

Also, I wonder if some thing that the 12" means it will only pick up 12" diameter logs. Not so! We cut some 30" stuff last winter and it grabbed just fine.

I agree with others here, while the smaller ones are handy to carry, the bigger 12'' tongs will work on the smaller stuff almost as well as the 8 inchers, and the big ones will grab some really large rounds(especially if the bark is still on). If I could only have one: 12inchers win.
