This year does not seem to be one of the better years, but the season is young and at some point they will wake up to the fact that they are sitting on huge inventory. When that happens price will drop and some good deals will be had.
I've had plenty of mornings in the upper teens so far. And yesterday probably didn't get past 30 - at my place anyway. Last winter I had 6 or 8 mornings that were -18*F Last year was a bit abnormal for how many days were at that low temp - usually it is more in the negative single digits. I also got plenty of days it never made it's way out of single digits (a couple never got above 0*F). If I didn't have an under-house garage, I wouldn't be using nearly the pellets I do. And, if I had sheetrock on my main floor ceilings, instead of acoustic tiles straight to the attic (WTH were they thinking?), I wouldn't lose as much heat as I do. The rooms that are above the garage are bears to keep warm since they have cold pressing in from 3 sides (and 2x4 construction, so insulation, although new, is only R13). You probably get way colder, and for longer than I do though.
33 last Oct/Nov, 23 this year. maybe we'll have a mild winter! I put up 2.5 cords of ash and maple over the weekend. :stacke:got a near full dino tank and 3 ton of pellets in the garage. We'll be warm no matter what!
Yeah, well I think that's what this guy was getting at. But while some of the people who work there may be part of the problem, a lot of the issues are built into the company in how it is run and managed from the top down.
Wow, while I may have longer and colder winters, it sounds like you'd have more heat loss. Garages with living space above them are just dead heat loss unless you feel the need to heat the garage all winter long. Also, I can't say I've ever hear of doing the ceiling in the main floor of a house with acoustic tiles either, that's crazy. It was -2 Celsius the last couple days but warmed up to +7 Celsius today. Not sure on the conversion to Fahrenheit. Sorry. I did a bunch of work on my place when I got it to help combat the fact it's 2x4 construction insulated with ten test. I added another 16" of insulation to the attic and had 1" of spray foam sprayed on the foundation walls in the basement with 3" sprayed into the joints ends over the foundation. Then I roughed in 2x4 framing and insulated with standard insulation. The basement holds the heat like crazy. Just wish I could do the same on the main floor!!!
since no one else said it....so that begs the question.....is it worth a few more bags of pellets??????????????????
But it depends on what you call a good deal.. If you buy a gallon of milk that is 1 week past date for 89ยข, is it a good deal? I got my first job in 1963... and since then I have wasted $50 bucks on so many other stupid things than better pellets.... Dan
Big Y at $299 for inferno gold.......Lowes at $299 for GS... or i could do Easy Blaze softies for $294 (not to toot my own horn)...either of those BBS brands would need to move $30 downward to be reasonable, and $50 to be a deal, and with the losses the BBS suffers with their expert forklift operators and putting pellets outside.....i don't see a profit margin for them.
I was two less this Dec vs last. Compared to last year I have burned 4 more bags overall. Not bad with two stoves compared to one last year.
Agreed, when you burn two stoves the bag counts start to add up. The fact that you are only up a couple over last year is probably attributed to the warmer than usual winter thus far. I have only put two bags in the P43 this year, and the hopper is still full from the second one. We pretty much only light that one when it's super cold, like temps in the teens and single digits. Forecast says we have a couple of those nights coming up so it will be getting called into service soon enough.
