    Anyone working on any projects?

Half my tools are still in storage, but I picked a bunch of goodies in the last few months. I haven't forged in about a year, but this nice weather is making me itch. I just have a lot of projects home upkeep projects here taking my spare time away.

I'm not sure if I posted this leg vise I picked up on FB marketplace last year. About 6" and maybe 90 pounds. Chamfered legs, looks like it may be English. It is complete with plate, wedges and spring. It needs a cleaning and light oiling. Sure is a nice one.

I went to an excellent estate sale. The gentleman was a picker and salvaged all sorts of stuff. I picked up 3 old sawn planks, a box of forged pintle hinges and rail spikes. I also got this nice Athol 614 bench vise at a very good price.

About a month later everything was free at the same sale and I picked a wooden box full of square nails. Really great pickin.

Most of the pintel's were wrapped around the post and forged welded. A few look like the holes were drifted and the posts set with a forge weld.

I picked up a leg vise fairly close to the look of yours almost 20 years ago by chance at a flea market. Man, it was a long haul to carry it back to the car.

They sure don't cooperate. I did the same thing with my 65 lb'er over my shoulder at a flea market.

My forge is still buried in the shop. I desperately wanted to get it out this past winter, unfortunately the work never let up because it was too mild......

Sweet finds!! My stuff has all been covered up on a pallet all winter. I’d love to get back at it, but there hasn’t been time!
First order of business might be framing in the end of the barn to make a little shop for all my stuff to stay set up in.

Definitely a nice finds Jon! I am finally getting my shop cleaned up, it's a wreck! Me and my youngest (who is taking welding at Vo-tech) have some projects scheduled for the house.

Little stuff like a new toilet paper holder that holds several rolls, a paper towel rack and any other small stuff along those lines that we can think of.

Not quite full on blacksmithing. I made some shelf brackets from angle iron for the farmhouse kitchen. They are sheared, punched, and bent. An iron worker let's you blacksmith without heat. ;)

I removed the millscale and cold blued them. Pic is with blueing. Didn't like it so I heated to a black heat and treated with beeswax and food grade oil. IMG_20200314_133819363.jpg IMG_20191027_120049528.jpg

My oldest wanted to try his hand at some blacksmithing. He wanted to make something for his girlfriend.

He did a pretty good job. I really did have to help him at all. Just had to give him a few pointers. He kind of surprised me because he's not much for this stuff. He's more of a book worm.
My youngest is the one going to vo-tech for welding. Me and him are currently working on a toilet paper holder project and haven't gotten around to finishing it. We ran out of time the weekend we were doing it and probably need another full day. I'll post that when we finish it up.

Good on you for getting out with the boys. Happy belated birthday too.

I still haven't had time to get set up here, so thank you for putting up what you are working on. I said it before, that post vise looks beefy.
