lukem Thanks, If I remember correctly the ones I mentioned all have internal pumps, right? Heard that if the external pump leaks you get a chemical bath down your backside.

I know the Chapin does. Can't say for sure on the SOLO.

Borax soap powder poured on weeds will take care of some weeds and vines and is not cancer causing.

I get more "into the weeds" with sprayers than most - and if this will only be used to occasionally spray a non-selective herbicide like Round-Up, and only in limited areas, I'd keep it to a good-quality manual pump sprayer. Going for a cheap powered unit is just asking for trouble as they are considered disposable by most of their manufacturers and customers alike.

The best manual pump backpack I've ever used is the Stihl SG20. It's more than enough to treat weeds/bugs in sidewalk/driveway cracks, street curbs, foundations, etc. The only thing I don't use mine for is broadcasting turf products on my lawn (turf care has remained a hobby of mine) which requires a bit more flow and precision than the SG20 offers.

I haven't used the newer ones (SG 51/71).

The harness on that Stihl unit definitely looks WAY more comfortable than the 29 buck HF sprayer I have.

Do you realize that Round-up is being exposed as being cancer causing ?

    So does wood smoke. *shrugs*

There's likely more risk from fumes at a filling station while refueling our cars. Or taking a cross-country flight to visit Mom, or spending a few days at the beach.... Paradox is that sunscreen has contained known carcinogens too.

I'm amazed that people scream bloody murder about GMOs and pesticides used in agriculture but hardly a whimper on the airwaves regarding the quality of the food allowed to be served. We'll pump our food supply full of hydrogenated oils, high-fructose corn syrup, Red 40, etc. None of which is significantly contributing to an abundant food supply. All in the name of profit. Down with corporate/large-scale farms, down with the pharmaceutical companies, etc. and so forth. All these huge battles to make radical changes that will take decades to do without causing economic collapse. But ensure that food actually has food in it? That's somehow not important despite being able to make the shift in a matter of weeks. Do you know what percentage of a McDonalds/Wendys/BK/etc. chicken sandwich is actual chicken meat? Me neither, but I'm confused on why anything less than 100% is/was acceptable. Other nations have caught on, why are we (the US) so dang slow about it?

I'll go back to sleep now. :zip:

Ya a lot of food sold in the US is banned in Europe.Even our allies won't eat it.Burger King and the rest of those joints should have a skull and crossbones over their doorways.I like the site Organic consumers .org which give a lot of consumer alerts which would never come across the corporate media circus.

Went out yesterday, sorry no pictures, with the sprayer, Grazon and weed hackers. Didn't have a measuring cup so guessing I went pretty heavy, but today I see weeds are wilting so with any luck I did some good. Much easier to get on and off than I expected and has a heck of a reach. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and will post back after going out there again, but that could be a couple weeks.

I am a die hard ( wife says addict ) Milwaukee fan, prob have 4-5k in tools conservatively. My company is a distributor so I get them a wholesale and lots of freebies. All that said, I too own a Harbor Freight manual 4 gallon and got to say, does what it is supposed to do without fail. Only complaint I guess is the spray head covers a little to broad a swath for a fence line , but less to weedeat regardless so not a huge complaint just looks silly to have 12” on each side of a fence dead. Reviewed the M18 Milwaukee and a lot of complaints and leaks etc so I went the cheap route and so far so good. I get the 58% kill it all stuff from the feed store and it never fails. About a week and it is all dead. Actually will be spraying the pond bank this weekend if wind is light. I try and be careful about overspray and getting it on myself for sure. Had a hose bust on a atv sprayer two years ago and got all in my face and mouth, not good and praying no lasting or long term side effects.
