In CT, I usually get medium size splits of black birch down to 20% in one year. I think white should be a bit quicker. I find yellow birch is a bit slower
I have been working on birch. So far I have split this: And this morning we used the new saw and turned this into this! The yellow birch is way harder to split than the white. I found myself using 3 wedges on that split in the center.
Midwinter, you still may want to split that birch even though it is small else it will turn punky in a few months.
Yes, I do like to split the small stuff. I usually store it in my porch, but it's pretty crazy in there now. I store fireplace wood stacked on iron fish tank stands.
Midwinter you might want to take a second look at that stack on the far end. That top bunch looks like it wants to perhaps move to the other side! Could it do some damage?
