    Hello,

Running this out in case anyone has seen this before and has any ideas. It's an astoria bay insert.

Let's assume the stove has ran out of pellets and it's faulted because of this. Normally you'd turn it off, load pellets and start it back up. However something new has appeared this season.

Starting with stove shut off, if you switch to thermostat mode a module on the control board begins to click and the stove begins to act strange. Exhaust blower starts, but no pellets drop, fans cycle a bit and it acts erratic with fans cycling and the clicking.

If stove is started in manual mode it works completely fine.

If stove is started in manual mode and allowed to complete full startup cycle and then switch to thermostat mode, it will run fine and stay fine.

It will run for days perfectly fine like this in thermostat mode after the manual mode cycle was completed and switched over to thermostat mode, cycling on an off all day as the stat calls for heat.

The issue only appears if we have a fault situation like we ran out of pellets as noted above.

I can already hear the peanut gallery - "just don't ever run out of pellets ;)"

I'm leaning towards control board. The unit is on a surge suppressor and is cleaned regularly. It's around 10 years old.

    Thanks,

    Earl

Yes.Control board."logic lock up" from a component failing on the control board. Probably one of the electrolytic capacitors. 10 years is already past it's life expectancy. Your board is probably repairable.

The electrolytic caps are not bulging or leaking. Was kind of hoping for that as it’s at least simple.

More testing tonight and it does nothing in auto anymore at all. Whether you’re in auto or manual an led comes on to show which setting you’re on, but now the auto led won’t come on.

Going to start looking for a replacement. Will keep this as a backup since it at least can support manual mode.
