If they replace the whole machine for a worn wheel, they are idiots! OTOH, if I had a HF machine that was functioning properly, I might just keep it and not buck the odds on a new one, lol.

 

I have a cheap Chinese knockoff. Not a plastic unit but a cheapy just the same. It’ll never be as good as a quality unit.
What helped a great deal was spending the money on diamond wheels and getting rid of that pink crap. Now that’s money well spent.
Made something almost not worth having into something that can be used.

 

What brand wheel are you using? I have an Italian made sharpener that looks like your and works well. Would love to run a diamond wheel on it.

They make them for high speed steel or carbide just so your aware.

It’s just a piece of ash I hacked up with the chainsaw. Seeing as I never had ash before it was a twofor purpose. Needed something to mount the grinder to and wanted to see how much ash checked when cut green and brought inside next to the stove
Same with the tulip poplar bench. Cut that for an experiment in checking 25 years ago and tossed it into the heat to see what would happen. Just never left the house. Was a plant stand for a long time.

 

I have the dynasaw wheel from Bailey's. It's freekun amazing how cool it grinds. I have a old Oregon grinder that I bought new many years ago and it was reworked by me because the play/slop drove me nuts. Also a big plus is no dust from the wheel just the tooth metal to clean up.

 

I put two of those welders magnets behind the blade on mine. Picks up all the metal dust. I sharpen right in the living room LOL

 

A couple of weeks ago I put a large magnet in a pill bottle right behind the wheel and it seemed to kind of work. A few days later I picked up the fuzzy bottle and now the index pawl is magnetized and is all fuzzy.
