Here you go. --I extended the handle on what is now the valve for the lift cylinder. So now you can work from either side of the splitter. I hadn't done the final hose routing yet in this pic so disregard the twists in the hoses.

I also added a hydraulic filter in the return line. Something northern tool should have included in my mind. They have a strainer in the suction line which is a cheap way to go IMHO.

And here it is all painted and almost done, just need to pick up the right size bolts and a couple hose clamps for the return line.

I got to use for an hour or so... The auto cycle is returning at 1500 psi which is sufficient to split 90% of the rounds with the 4 way wedge. I'm going to adjust it to 2000psi but the instructions say to wait and make sure all the air is out of the system before making adjustments.

The lift cylinder does not have fluid available while the auto cycle is in use. But you can put the lift valve into retract and the lift will lower fairly quickly by gravity.... You can't raise the lift until the splitting cylinder is stopped. In practice this works fine as you don't need to raise the lift while splitting a log but being able to lower the lift allows you to pre load the next round. And then raise it as soon at the splitting cylinder is retracted.
