Looks like it was pretty straight for the most part. I seem to get the twisted ones more often than not, although I like it as firewood enough to not let that deter me.
Yes it was. Most that i run into is straight. Id like it for bundle wood but too heavy so i only put aside the barkless for it. The primo btu stuff usually goes to my wood stove customers although i did give a new customer (casual burner) black birch last week. It was the cleanest stuff i had. Still have more to split from load three
Today's delivery took me near the score so i drove by and they were taking down another huge sugar maple. Had just the limb wood down. Tall gnarly spar still upright. Two cherries taken down in front of another yard. Tomorrow's dilemma is to hit the score or not. Some light snow forecasted. Split and stacked all the SBH this afternoon. Some nice splits. More nails found with the hydro. Doesnt surprise me as it was next to the road. 3/4 of a half cord rack filled.
Topped the hickory with some pignut from the prior score. If by chance i get more shag in the next few months ill swap it out! Split a bunch of nuggets. One cord bin started empty now 1/4 full. More nails found with splitter. Hydro makes a great glove dryer/warmer. Light snow falling all afternoon. Going by the score tomorrow. Ill stop and check out the fresh cutting. Saw will be with me so some cutting maybe done.
Looking good, my friend. I've done the same with my gloves, also hold them in front of exhaust to warm my hands up.
The less steps the better. Making firewood is already enough work as it is. Why unload to split later when it can be split as it's unloaded?
Not that often i can split right off the truck, but do like being able to do such of course. Even rarer luxury is being able to stack too. Most of the time im glad to get it to the wood yard so i can go get more.
I've done that, haul fresh cut rounds from the woods, split right off of the trailer and then stacked right away, and I find that stacks really shift a lot due to drying. As much as I want to do that, I find it best to split it and let it sit a few months before stacking. The stacks don't shift as much then. I stack tall in my shed, like 8+ feet. So that amplifies the problem when the wood shrinks.
