    I put up 3-4 cords of elm each year. They are all stringy like the pics. I noodle them to 12” wide, the height of my wedge. I also attach a couple 2x’s to the plate so the wedge goes all the way thru the wood. I also keep a sharp hatchet around to get the pieces that are still stuck together.

    That elm we had sat long enough for the bark to get loose. Split pretty good then.
