Thanks! Noodling is not a bad idea. I will have to check with the business owner where the wood sits to see what they are comfortable with me doing.

Noodling is what you should do with the big rounds. Rake up the noodles when you are done and save them for firestarter material. Welcome to the site.

Welcome to the forum. Don't let a little thing like to big to lift stop you. Noodle them down to size and haul them home.

Got some time today. Will ask landowner what he thinks about chainsaw use on property. Will let you all know how it goes.

A good set of ramps to roll the big rounds up into the truck or trailer can get you rounds that will have people staring...

Also worth considering - especially since its ash - would be hand splitting on site enough to get the pieces to a manageable size.

So I went back this morning to the wood site. The town was out there cutting more ash! Went back later in day when they were done and got another truckload of reasonably sized rounds. They also left more BIG rounds. So, again, will have to get back there and talk with property owner to ask about bringing the saw and fiskars to widdle down the bigger rounds. So far, it's been 5 truckloads of ash. If I get the go ahead to cut up the rounds, it will be more like 10. Either way, this has been a great score, definitely my best ever.

All the recommendation you all have made are great and if I get the green light to cut the big wood up, I will be using many of them.

Well, went back to talk with the property owner and all the remaining wood was gone. My guess is that whoever took had some major capabilities for such a task, as there was a lot of big pieces and I was just there yesterday evening. By noon today it was gone. It's like my grandmother used to say, " all scrounges must come to an end". Ok, she actually didn't say that, but if she had that would have been pretty cool.

Nice score fellow nutmegger! Had a similar score going myself with a 4' diameter trunk that disappeared on me. Scrounges come and go. I'm on the northern border, almost to Mass.

Northern CT....brrrr. Can be almost a whole different climate than from the coast down here. That said, for the next month or so, while will you see a nice spring warm up, we hardly get out of the low 50's on the coast until may it seems. Darn southern wind!
