To your point Brad, the wood was just beautiful. I really wish I had a mill and a grapple.
And more yard to dry the product in.

Having cut several loads in yards from FBM scores this year, im starting to frown on roadside wood for the danger factor. Passed on a couple in the last month.

Same here. But, this is a pretty quiet road, and the cones did the trick. People slowed as soon as they saw the first one. I wouldnt want to be out there without them either.

Day 3 on the roadkill ash score.
As soon as I found out I wasn't needed at work, I assembled a search and rescue team, and we were gone within the hour.
We drove up the street 1000 feet from yesterdays score, and cut, split & loaded a nearly full stacked trailer load.
This time the pieces were all 10" than yesterdays trunks. We got it home and stacked before sunset.
The end of the stack is around 5' above ground level, the finish height will be 6'. It will shrink as it dries.

Im still using cross pieces between the rows, just so each stack is a little locked together. Placing those every 3 feet, about waist level.
Pics just before we laid into it. Everything pictured is gone, except for the heap top right, which we took 5 or 6 larger rounds from.

It was another sweaty humid day. The way the boy and I were sweating, it might as well have been 95.
But we all had fun, ate home cooked food, and enjoyed watching the stack grow.
    Hoarding is a catchy addiction.
Maybe one day the boy will have a wood stove, and I'll spend time at his place, cutting and splitting and stacking....

Well, today was a feel good day at the roadkill ash score.
I drove by on the way home from work, sun was setting, and I was ready to cut a bunch of rounds, so we could just split and haul tomorrow.

BUT it was all gone! I think the little red car that passed us by 3 times on wednesday, came back with reinforcements thursday. Even down the road by the curve, the stuff I'd left for last (smaller/crookeder) was all gone, including smaller stuff that was in the woods a few feet. Im not sure it was jealousy, or knowing that wood sat for 2+ weeks and they thought it was all theirs...... I bet somebodies fribbles were frosted!

We didn't hit that score hard; nice-n-easy. But we got the best wood (nice straight long pieces, the easiest wood (right up near the road), and the most wood. They had to work harder for smaller daimeter and kinkier pieces, and go farther into the bush to get it.

I haven't been that filled with glee since the last big snowstorm.

    I thought you'd catch that!

But yeah, stoked that we had the manpower to hit it for 3 days and grab that much before someone else got their horses hooked up.

But, they got a bunch of good wood too, I'm glad they got it, and didnt leave it to rot. Some of it I really had little motivation to get.

We ended up with a cord and a half from there.....finished off a friend's stacks, he's set for 2 years, and got started on my stacks at home.

    I'm happy.

Great score! Ash is such a great firewood; easy to split, dries quickly and puts out some good BTUs. It’s a shame all of our ash trees are dying off in CT.

It is a shame. I hope enough survive to regrow when the eab is dying out.
    Till then, I'm hoarding relentlessly.
