Doubtful, the location of these logs are in swamp city...and well, I have to cross a 40ft wide creek.. So the rowboat barge it shall be..
I tried that once for hickory and beech hauling. Once. That was it, and that was slightly downhill even. Then I bought a 4x4 quad.
Dad called me last night and says "hey bud they ended up having to cut down two of my oaks one sugar maple and a hickory for this Damm sewer line, they stacked it behind the neighbors pole building for you to cut up" . As soon as I was finished with my job for the day I raced over to my parents which is only 2 miles from my home. I touched up the chain on the 455 and started going to town. I am unloading the second load as I type this. Going to have to sharpen the chains for the 440, these big ones are BIG. Not that the 455 couldnt handle it, I just would rather save a little time.
It sounds like they may be excessively awesome! Try dialing it back a little... Seriously though, maybe the size of the file? Congrats again!
Harder to do as you age, eh Dave? Splitsnstacks, you're killin me with all these trees suddenly presented to you! Way to go, man!
When it rains it pours. It's not always like this for me. I'm actually sad to see so many old trees be cut! I just happen to own land and have lots of family with land that this sewer project is plowing through. I honestly don't have time for all of this right now, this is my busy time of year. I just can't let wood sit when I know it could be split and stacked esp when it's such easy Pickens. Not gonna lie, the river escapade shall take a back seat until these big ones are done. I'm sure the crew will pile them up for me anyway. They seem like good guys.
That's great about the crew.... Maybe exchange a pizza @ lunchtime for them to add some runners underneath to get them crosscreek logs off the ground? That would serve your future intentions nicely.
Good thinkin, Eric, although these guys seem more easily persuaded with a case of adult beverages. Haha at least that's how my dad got them to stack those big ones for me.
See if any of them have some 1/2" braided steel cable...say, about 200-300 feet of it. Then ask them to cinch it up between one "house side" of the creek tree to a "far side" of the creek tree. Ask them to thread a pulley on there too. That might cost you at least a full Keg of adultie bevs, but then you'll be ready when you're finished with them "easy pickens" I say, I say, "That'll be worth some pics, son!"
although your block and tackle technique sounds enticing lol I'm actually going to try to persuade them to skid them across the creek to the house side skipping out the whole part of me having to move them from one side of the creek to the other.
