Got up in the roof today, tag on pipe is a bit hard to read but looks like rhino rigid... Struck out on the pipe. Neither lowes or HD had any double, stopped at a patio and hearth store (that does some wood stoves) and he didn't have any in either, said he has had a hard time ordering. Gave me a stove/chimney installers card who is doing a job for him somewhat down my way. Im going to call him and see if he has any, or has a good source. If he's willing to drive about 20 minutes down the road (from that "nearby" job) I'm gonna see if he'll swing by here and take a gander...
Is this brand good pipe? Northline Express seems legit and reputable? 6'' x 12'' DVL Double-Wall Black Stove Pipe - 6DVL-12 Some of the other brands/sites I've looked at, I couldn't find some of the pieces/lengths I think I'm going to need...
Have been crazy busy with work and farm lately so haven't gotten to do pipe/stove... If I get the DVL pipe linked above...how do I connect it to the thimble piece (think I'm using the correct term) shown in the pic? I guess that piece is rhino rigid, since that's what the tag on the top chimney piece says. On northline's site, the chimney adapter piece says it connects to duratech, duraliner etc pieces...so I guess it will only attach to other double wall? Or do they just say that and it can work with other pipe? Is there another piece I should be looking at to connect the 45 (hopefully, if room allows for 2 45's vs a 90) to the thimble piece?
Once you get the new stuff in and get the old taken off then you can see how they are going to match up...it'll work one way or the other, just a matter of how much PITA it will be making it happen... It really shouldn't be that big of a deal though honestly...
I was kinda thinking it should be workable, u less it's really specific fitting. Never done this, so I probably am way overthinking things, but I don't know that I am till I'm told that I am....if that makes sense. Sine I'm going to have to order everything (cant find in stores), just trying to see what I need to hopefully get it in one shot.
There's really no way to know how easy or hard it will be...I do see that the Rhino Rigid is still made, but its doubtful you will find anyone on here with personal experience with it...chances are it will all fit together fine...depending on what your plans are, you will obviously need (2) 45* elbows and at least one piece of pipe, probably 2...and to make it easier to put together/slide apart, make one of those pipes a telescoping section...you'll thank me later. The only other thing would be if you need some sort of appliance adapter or not...I would think someone on here could tell you if NLE pipe will drop straight onto an AS or not...or maybe WS can?
The AS has a flue collar, I was assuming the pipe would direct fit...if not hopefully someone will chime in. I have one of the 2"-11" adjustable pieces on my list, cause I don't think just a "standard" length will fit. Thanks for the help brenndatomu. I may try to give WS a call to confirm the pipe to flue collar fit.
Not sure how the 45s will affect horizontal distance to the connection, coupled with rear clearance etc. Planning on a 12" and adjustable 2"-12" up to two 45s, and needing an adapter for rhino rigid liner connection. Question is, can I use an adjustable piece (a 2"-12") for horizontal if I need to?
They sell a DVL to single wall adapter. It caps off the DVL and terminates to a crimped male end single wall.
This piece correct? 6'' DVL Chimney Adapter with Trim - 6DVL-ADT Northline customer service didn't know, had me call duravent. I left a message on a machine at duravent, and later called again that day and talked to someone. The lady told me I couldn't use their dvl to attach to rhino rigid. Later that day, the head of technical support called me (it was his line I had left the message on evidently). He told me I could use it, and depending on outside diameter of the fhino pipe, I may or may not need the adapter. He said they are supposed to say you can't mix manufacturers cause of code blahbledeblah... After measuring, I do need it best I can tell.
That adapter is made to be screwed onto a duravent ceiling support box when you are using dvl to the stove. I have one on my chimney. Attached a photo. Seems like you just need to fit the stub of the liner inside some part of a DVL system and be able to use screws to hold it. Be prepared to add crimps to the rhino stub with a crimper to reduce the diameter if needed.
I’m pretty sure you can shove the dvl 45 right over a properly crimped rhino stub and run the screws through the outer and inner wall of the dvl into the rhino. Don’t boof the rhino stub. It’s probably pretty hard to replace.
Thanks for the info yall. Eric is trying to get me straight, and I think has another adapter piece in mind. In terms of buggering up that piece of rhino sticking out..yeah, don't want to do that. I know they say nothing's impossible, but replacing that piece is probably pretty close. That rhino is hard and stiff...how does one crimp that?
I was able to hand crimp my single wall SS stovepipe, which is pretty heavy duty...but 'twerent easy! And it wasn't the prettiest crimp ever either...but still effective.
They sell a crimping tool in the HVAC area. It’s like 5 little fingers, 3 one way and two the other, that pinch the pipe into several little wrinkles that reduce the diameter. You want the rhino (stiff and hard) to slide into the female end of the 45 nice and tight for a drip less connection before you screw it.
Ah I see I set you up nicely.... I'm surprised the rhino pipe goes inside a piece of pipe on the stove side. I would have thought each piece from the stove would go into the next piece.
Male pipe ends always point back toward the stove...keeps any potential creosote from being able to run down the outside of the pipe...
