Are you seeing any sales at the New England Big Box Stores this Spring?

I'm already thinking about upping my order. But, to have any chance of getting a garage built this summer (which is, honestly, looking slimmer and slimmer), I can't have tons of them sitting around in my yard like I did several years ago.

I learned last year that no matter what store you buy from, HD ships from a location based on their delivery logistics. I have a Home Depot in town that I order from. The pellets are picked and shipped from one two towns away.

    Hi Skier76,
I will second that. Both of my orders were from Home Depot, Portsmouth.
The first 12 tons came from Portsmouth wrapped in white plastic. The next 8 tons
come from Home Depot, Somersville wrapped in green plastic.

I am checking some Home Depot stores. The inventory is low and the prices are going back up.
    Here are a few:
    Portsmouth: inventory 3, price $229/ton
    N. Hampton: inventory 1, price $269/ton
    Somersworth: inventory N/A, price $269/ton
    Rochester: inventory N/A, price $229/ton
    Seabrook: inventory 94, price $219/ton

So, only the store with substantial inventory are still offering sale prices. The
prices vary by store. You should check the store in your own area.

I went to the Merrimack store hoping to get some of the Alegheny GS that they had. When I told them I was about 35 miles away, they told me they would ship from the closest store anyway, so I would get whatever they had. Unfortunately the closest one, 30 miles away has the northeast blend.

    Hi Bogieb,
The Green Supreme Northeast Blend burns fine in a Harmon. Pellets at a price of less than $200/ton, I no longer even about the brand.

I know that, I'm even burning some right now in the P61a, I would have just preferred the better type.

I see that the sales on wood pellets has started on some Lowes Stores.
Price vary by store. Near me, Lowes, Greenland is advertising $3.58/bag.
which is $179/ton. And Lowes advertises another 10% off if you purchase
50 bags. If you pay with a Lowes Credit card, another 5% off.
So about $180/ton minus 15% ($26 or $27) is less than
    $155/ton.
I need to ask about delivery cost, but usually about $80 for any number of tons.

So the Lowes near me still has a couple bags of both the GS Allegheny hardwood and the Northeast blend.

It sounds like the people here prefer the Allegheny over the Northeast Blend? Is that the case?

Gotcha. So if I have the choice, I'll grab the Allegheny variety.

So on a related note, you guys are chatting about low price sales at big boxes to make room for other seasonal merchandise... I've never ever seen this happen anywhere near me. Maybe the big boxes are just bigger here and they're not strapped for storage space? Around here, they just take whatever they don't sell and put them high up on their pallet racks and save them for the next year. I've never seen a sale.

I'm almost out of the heat season for this year and don't really need to pick up anything other than onesie-twosies bags at this point, but if I could nab a bunch at a really good price, I would save them for next year.

So... Just how far north would I have to go to start seeing these sales?

My local TSC ran dry earlier in the week. Lowes and HD haven't had any since last week. TSC now up to $5.99/bag so $299.50/ton. I'm glad I'm stocked up with 4 tons for next season just hope pricing comes down between now and then so I can add to the stash. :(

Just bought a ton, today, at Lehighton Lowe's $161 a ton. Power Pellets/O'Malleys, not the greatest typically but for $160 who can complain. They have at least 16 ton that I saw.

Lehighton is about sixty miles north of me. Wonder if they deliver. Haha!!

I looked at the Bethlehem store website, and they're still running non-sale price. So the sales are clearly store dependent at Lowes. Some stores are selling off, and others are not. Bethlehem and Whitehall should be closer to you than Northampton. How did you know that Northampton was running a sale?

I think if my local store was selling a ton of Power Pellets for $160, I'd buy a ton to use as shoulder supply. My Harmon would gobble them up without complaint even though they aren't great.

HD and Lowes seem to run specials every spring here in NH. But, they don't really advertise it. You have to either notice while at the store or be specifically looking on their website. It probably depends on how much they have. The Concord store (30 miles from me) was running the special for longer than the Merrimack store (37 miles from me). Usually the only reason I know the sales are going on is because someone is kind enough to post it on the forum.

To get the best price, you have to order 3+ tons. Also, I think they only put their standard cheaper pellets on sale, not the green teams.
