It is , the large ash pan offers some flexibility when to empty if in a long cold spell can push it off till it warms up , same with cleaning I've gone 4 weeks with out cleaning it still pumps out the heat . It's now how I normally do it , I shoot for days when the temps are above freezing . Generally clean around 2 - 3 weeks .

you guys are welcome to buy up all the chows......
seriously, yes Harmans can handle pretty much anything and the ash pan hold enormous amount of ash which is how I looked at previously.. but, I burned them for couple yrs and that's enough for me..... maybe got tired of looking at mounds of ash & the same bag.. who knows..
    give someone else a turn..:salute:

So the Platinum's have been burning in the P61a Since Monday. I just cleaned the glass last night and it was still way cleaner at that point than 24 hours with FSU's. I did turn up the feed to 4, from 3, but otherwise the rest of the stove settings have stayed the same (using room temp/auto). Although I haven't actually measured the temp coming out of that stove, it must be hotter as I am using less pellets. This week has been consistently colder, both day and night, than it has been. Although there is just about as much ash as the FSU's, it's hard to tell until I go to clean it because the ash flies out of the pot. The ash is obviously lighter as I haven't had to scrape off a "mustache" yet.

I also ran 2 bags thru the P43. There is no difference in glass cleanliness, but I've never had an issue with any pellets (including FSU's) sooting up the glass on that stove. Once again, I didn't have to clean a mustache off the burn pot but I can watch ash blow out as it is running. Because this stove is on the main floor, and wind/cold affect this level much more than the basement, I can't judge performance at all by pellet use as I run in room temp (thermostat in another room). I did place an oven thermometer just in front of the air tubes and got a 250* reading. The Pres-to's that I've been running are at 225*, so it seems as if the Platinum's are running hotter (the thermometer has not been moved at all, so the readings should be comparable).

All in all I am pleased with the Platinum Pellets and am happy I decided to make the journey to the town-that-shall-not-be-named to get them,

The Platinums will definitely outperform those brands by far . Good choice.

That's awesome bogie. Had a feeling you would like those Platinum Pellets. Clean burn, low ash, and great heat. Really great to hear they are doing well for you. FWIW I have a similar experience with my P43. Something about it, stays clean longer than the P68. Not just the glass either, and it doesn't really seem to matter very much what pellets I burn in it. When I go to scrape and clean it after a burn, always amazed out how little there is to clean.

I think she means the the fluffy ash that hangs on and over the edge of the pot .

No; speed bumps are hard deposit residue that has to be scraped. The mustache is a line of ash that develops at the front of the pot - just have to sweep those off. The lighter (in weight) the ash, the less of a mustache.

I have been surprised, in a good way, at how it acts differently from the P61. Burns things cleaner than the P61aand even the St. Croix Hastings I had in that spot last year. - even when I used the leftovers from last year , so exact same pellets. Been extremely pleased with it as my main floor stove.

same as everyone else.. just hunkering down till it blows over....lot's of wind/drifts......
did have to go out backyard and shovel a killing area out so my 2 Golden Retrievers have a place to do business since snow is pretty deep.
    interesting note:
my Harman Ash pan is getting near full[ Thank u Lignetics] since I haven't emptied it in couple weeks and it's so friggin windy that I can't take it outside and dump it
in the metal ash can.. Can't bring the can in the house and dump it because it still makes a cloud regardless..[wife would stick me in the head with a fork if I did that]
hmmm.. just had a thought.. bring the outside can down to the basement and empty the ash pan down there.... F..........:headbang: She' has clothes on hangers drying down there. We have a dryer but she likes to save on Electric when she can. ok... new idea...leave it alone and hope winds die down tommorow...

Just threw a bag of La Cretes in the hoppa. First one of the season. Based on all the favorable feedback here and my experience with them a few seasons ago, I have high expectations for these!
