I had one of those, Christmas Eve 1984 we moved into the house my parents had built in the county from a triple decker outside Boston. Beautiful wood stove/ hearth in the kitchen. It was magical until, My younger sister got mad at me about something and put that sucker right on top of the hot stove! I got her back that summer with the propeller of my remote controlled boat that only went in circles. Still remember the look on my mothers face cutting it out of her hair. The punishment was worth it on that one.
Oh my! lol Even as a kid I understood why they stole that helicopter and kept it hidden from the government. Blue Thunder backed up this type of thinking. I played this song cold for a buddy who hadn't heard it in 35 years and he instantly knew what it was.
This was my big one. I usually didn't beg for toys, but this one was an exception....Guess maybe I shoulda kept it in the package??
In the 70's my school lunch had large fluffy cinnomon rolls smothered with a ladel of chili. Holy cow those were SO good. Didn't have pizza til Jr High, but it was purchase item, not in the school lunch. I went to my kids school to lunch with her a couple times in elementary school, the once awesome big scoop of mashed potatoes with turkey gravy over the top is disgusting now. No flavor, no seasoning nor salt, icky little turds that were supposed to be turkey and some slimy plastic that was supposed to be gravy.
Saw this posted on another group: A generation that walked to school and then walked back. A generation that did their homework alone to get out asap to play in the street. A generation that spent all their free time in the streets with their Friends. A generation that played hide and seek when dark. A generation that made mud cakes. A generation that collected sports cards. A generation that found, collected and washed & Returned empty coke bottles to the local grocery store for 5 cents each , then bought a Mountain Dew and candy bar with the money. A generation that made paper toys with their bare hands. A generation who bought vinyl albums to play on record players. A generation that collected photos and albums of clippings of their life experiences as a Kid. A generation that played board games and cards on rainy days. A generation whose TV went off at midnight after playing the National Anthem. A generation that had parents who were there. A generation that laughed under the covers in bed so parents didn't know we were still awake. A generation that is passing and unfortunately it will never return no matter how hard we try. I loved Growing up when I did. it was the best of times.
'Xennials' I have fallen into the category before according to some. I prefer the more fun sounding 'Daywalkers' in reference to us being the gap between X and the Millenials. We're at home in both the digital and analog realms. I didn't grow up *with computers, I *grew up with computers.
