Yeah what bigfrank said. Keep that back cut above your notch. The tree will want to lean back on the saw if you cut below the notch. Even if the tree doesnt have a top, it shouldnt take too much wedging if its straight. The hinge being off the centerline of the tree is usually enough to make it fall the correct direction.
