The first year I paid $192.50. The second year I paid $244.50/ton for 3 tons delivered so that included $60 freight.

Thanks, I knew you would have the numbers. The first year, I only bought small batches. The second year in bought 4 tons delivered. No charge for the delivery. I just don't see big differences in the pellets when I burn on stat. When I burn low stove temp, the differences show up. :banana:Harman

Thermostat for room temperature. The stove turns itself on, runs full tilt until the room is up to temp, then settles back down, even shuts off. Burning hot stops the dirty burns and clinker formation for the most part.

Hard to burn hot though when all u want is to take chill out of the house for a bit without becoming Sahara desert . But,
could turn my oil furnace on for a cycle just " for 'nostalgia' since haven't heated with it for 2 yrs other than used for Hot water.

The US oil rig count is the lowest in like 70 years. I wonder if the price of oil will creep up enough to make pellets more attractive for the masses again. Anyway, moral of my story is I would load up now if there are deals in your neighborhood.

If it rises too much, the fracking boys will be at it again and that could keep any price rise to a minimum.

Even if it does, I think the mills are at least a year away from any relief. Pretty much everyone on this site has next years pellets on hand already. Some have multiple years. Combine that with what the mills have warehoused, I don't think we've seen the last of the closures yet. Things could get ugly for us consumers in the next few years.

I agree, Even if the oil price does do what we expect. There are still mountains of pellets in the stream that need to be moved. Plus many burners that are in this for the long haul have their next seasons supply stuffed and then some. Some of the hoarders have indulged with the deals and could go a season plus......

Ultimately there is a cap on oil, due to the fact that as prices rise frackers come back online. My guess is $50 is the ceilling. So hho round $2.50 a gallon is my guess. Possibly next heating season. We shall see. I will likely have all the pellets i need.

All this is true with the exception that the price doesn't always follow supply and demand in the short term. In my opinion it is anyone's guess where it spikes and where it lands. All I know is it shot up to $150 right after it bottomed last time. I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happens again.

We are so low now because supply has far outpaced demand. There has been a 1+ million barrel a day oversupply for sometime. Storage was filling up. All a result of opec )saudi) trying to crush the us production. It has worked somewhat although revent price jump has been because opec pulling bavk. As prices rise us shale production will rise again. The only thing that could stop it is if all the drillers are bankrupt or not liquid. Shale is a game changer it is real quick to ramp up production. I would bet we stay <$70 a barrel for a long long time. China being in the dumper also helps bigtime.

Those of us here that have been burning for 15+ years have always been hoarders. Pellets didn't used to be available on every corner like they are now. I always did a Spring or early Summer buy. Now, not so much....I'm a bit concerned about the Blazer Plant closure and the Vermont Pellet shutdown last month. I wonder if Scot L would tell us if they are still in production.....:D

I think it was only limited production from what I heard(but that's just rumors). Hopefully Scot Linkletter will pop in and tell us how they are doing? I sure hope they can weather this and wish them well.

I'd also like to know how NEWP, Corinth and Geneva are making out.
