If only those prices would magically appear in these parts. Last I knew FSU's were stil $5.18/bag at HD. Course, I haven't been to HD in 2 weeks, but haven't heard any of the NH folks on forums making a ruckus about them reducing prices either.
Same up here. Just for the hell of it I'm going to take a ride tomorrow to check prices but I'm not optimistic.
I got some driving to do tomorrow which will be close to an HD - will probably swing by to see what's what.
I'll have to check , all that was open was 6 pallets of chow on the floor in the garden area under the roof , web site is showing 200+ ton in stock that is all out back , I'll be stopping again this week I'll let you know buddy
They're starting to drop here finally. Was at lowes with the mrs yesterday and they had prestos for $5.18bag. We had her car (vw tiguan) so I couldn't load up but I did grab 5 bags Edit: i just checked my local depots prices online. They're down to $199 skid. Might have to take a ride today!
Honestly im not that impressed with the prestos in my hastings but they do burn alot better than most. I'll grab a few more if the price drops again.
Do your snowdancing! I'm itching to take the sleds out! I just did a quick searched via the old interwebs and it's amazing that the Keene, NH Home Depot hasn't dropped their prices yet. According to their website, they have 317 tons in stock? That seems a bit much. Maybe that's bag count? I'm thinking the warm-up (booooooooooo! Where's the snow?) this week should help bring some prices down.
That's prolly correct if you check the inventory under the / ton price , when I check the inventory under the bag price it tells me limited quantities at least at my store really when I know they have tons sitting in the back lot .
Just spoke with a guy at depot. Confirmed that they have stove chows at $199 ton. Never burned em. Should I grab a ton at this price?
I would say so! Ash volume varies but I have always gotten consistently great heat from chows. Time to pounce.
Think I'm going to take a ride. I figure why not buy another skid and stick it in the shop till next season.
My opinion only. If you are planning on using pellets next year, it's not a bad idea at all. Here is my thinking.. I REALLY doubt that they will open the buying season at that price. Right now, if you can buy pellets for 199, I can tell you there is not much profit there at all... and a loss for good stuff. (based on northeast pricing) They won't START the season at that price... when you want it.. unlikely, anyway. Pellets aren't like fuel oil or gas. The cost of material procurement/production/shipping, etc. hasn't dropped like crude. Oil went from say $120 to $30. Wood didn't. The people selling fuel/fuel oil, are still making the same profit. When gas was 4 bucks a gallon, the gas station made a profit. He's making the same today at 1.75. (example) The only way for pellets to come down, realistically, is if you make less profit. If at every stage of the pellet process, each stage comes down a little, then the price will come down. But it's not going to come down 40 bucks... There are people here a lot smarter than me... please feel free to chime in... Dan
I can help answer that - they are very nice Folks @ HD in Keene NH, many who work there burn wood & pellets, and they are -very- aware of & in-tune w/ pricing in the area: options are limited in this area, their pricing is in-line with the other vendors in town. When I was in pickup up plumbing parts this week, they were starting to setup the Spring displays, so I imagine there may be some pricing breaks soon, but my gut feeling is telling me they will hold pricing consistent, until the very end of the season .. In short, they don't 'have' to dump inventory yet.
Based on current pricing (on CL) at mom and pop shops and such, I believe a lot of those shops are going to be stuck with lots of product at their current pricing. I mean $250+ for Easy Heat, $280+ for Instant Heats, $305 for Ligs??? Something is going to have to give.
