I am trying to like woma's posts as well. Trying to remember, (am on too many forums) was this the site that has/had a surprise gift for the most likes one has given?
Spoken quite eloquently by someone from Wankers Corner... Just started burning the Orfords I picked up last week at $4 a bag. It's giving my stove quite the fluffy azz I mean ash. Coating the entire interior. Burning quickly too, faster than the Maine Woods or Still River hardwoods. I'm woma, and I approve of and like this post.
Well prices are starting to break at Lowe's. Delivery prices that is. Got an email from Greene Team saying delivery is now $19. Limit 10 tons . I have a feeling that ton limit is safe.
No offense taken BUT - I burned wood for 10 years. The ex cut and split, I stacked. Then I hauled 100' to the deck to fill the wood rack. Then I filled the rack in the living room from the one on the deck. I cleaned the stove every weekend (including glass), filled the woodrack on the deck every weekend and split kindling when needed. With the pellets, normally I pick them up and put them in a cart (10-20 bags at a time), roll them to the counter to pay. Roll them to the vehicle (I park at the far end of the lot so I have to get the exercise), load them into the vehicle, unload the vehicle and stack in the garage, then carry them from the garage to the stacks on the far side of the basement, then pick them up over my shoulder to load each of my stoves (they have hopper extensions, plus are on blocks). Oh yea, and one of those stoves is up the stairs This is the first year I had pellets delivered (I'm still buying individual bags too) and I moved 4 tons in less than 4 hours; 2 into garage and 2 into house (minimum trip was 80 feet). I used a wheeled cart to move 6 bags at a time over rough ground (those 6 bags weigh more than twice what I do), stack in 3 stacks (so, lifting a lot of the bags over my head). I pick up each bag to load into my stoves (over the shoulder - and one stove upstairs). And, now that I have used close to 2 tons of pellets, I am moving them from the garage and restacking in the basement. Yeah, I'm getting at least as much exercise as I did with wood, just no mess, insects or mouse dropping. Oh, and since I am doing all my landscaping by hand, myself, no motorized tools (digging and moving several yards of pea gravel and several more yards of just dug up sod/dirt/weeds with a hand cart), I think I'm just fine in the whole being around the dirt thing. Oh, and for the record, all my help is me, myself and I. And - I live in town, I'm guessing that there are a whole lot of country dwelling pellet heads who do a whole lot more laborwise and dirt wise than me.
flatbeds are definitely quicker to unload and can bring 23 or 24 ton, depending on the trailer type. potential strap damage and water damage due to rain is possible. flatbed loads are a bit more expensive per ton, at least coming into CT (CT has more loads inbound than outbound). vans can bring 22 tons. the extra weight of the box is the difference. if you get a driver assist delivery, and put an extra hand in the truck, it works well. less cost per ton, but it's offset by the increased labor.
Got an email from a place kinda near me. Old Dominion and Nations Choice for 4.99 per bag. They are not listed on their site, so I don't think they are a regular brand they carry. That price is about $25 cheaper than anything else on their list. I wonder if they got a good deal to try and move some of them???
So I am changing my opinion on these Orfords. Originally I though the ash buildup was due to dirty stove. Well today the West Point, which just had a leaf blower treatment, had a burn pot full of ash. Each bag seems to be a craps shoot on what you will get. I would say half have been very good and the other half have had more ash than average or ash that never made it out of the pot.
