just picked up 4 bags of Matra this morning so after i clean the stove this weekend i'll give them a shot..
You will be happy Tully while they are nothing like traditional pellet as they are really soft they burn really hot and leave very little ash .
I honestly really like them. The matra imho burn as or if not hotter and as clean if not cleaner then the old okie platinums.
So far so good with the Matra's.... nice smell, low ash, seem to be as hot or hotter thank my EZBlaze softies.. think we have a winner here.... some of the pellets a bit long but no bridging problems here..
Got my first batch of the season in the P68 now. I had forgotten how great they really are. The heat and ash they produce really is exceptional.
They remind me how gung-ho I was about EZ blaze super premiums a couple years ago. Superhot barely any Ash nice blonde color. That all went down the drain when they totally changed the recipe, the size and whatever. Hope these Matras hold steady for a few years.
I also find the Matras burn with a super bright flame. Noticeably brighter than most others, and can burn for days before even a slight haze is noticed on the door glass.
Yes. I noticed the bright flame as u mentioned it. Like a blowtorch. Should have also said " barely any ash" as opposed to low ash.btw:EZB are a still a good pellet even though they are changed somewhat.
After burning EzBLaze softies, had to up my feed rate to 4 as the Matra pellets are bigger than the very small Blaze pellets in order to get the same room temperature. My only tick against them so far. harman sez the P61a should be at feed rate#4 for optimal heating but someone should tell them that most times in stove or constant mode, feed rate #4 set at a normal temp of low 70's will melt the walls in due time.
I think they mean, that is the one setting that will work in most situations.. And you won't get into any trouble.. Later on, they say adjust to get the burn that you want.. If it was "THE" setting.. there would be no adjustment... (just my opinion) Dan
And they don’t cost $400/ton. Agreed, and for what it's worth I do the same thing. When burning short pellets that feed quickly, I will adjust down and when burning longer pellets that don't feed quite as fast, I adjust up. I basically try to keep the feed rate at a setting that will make the temp gauge on the side of the stove top out at 500 - 550 degrees at max heat demand. When I threw in the Matras, I bumped up the feed rate to 3.5. Before the Matras, I was burning North Country (shorter pellet) and had it at feed rate 3. Adjusting for longer / shorter pellets or burn rate preference is exactly why the feed rate dial exists. I've heard feed rate "4" referred to as the "set it and forget it" setting, but I don't really prescribe to that guidance, on account of I'm such a rebel.
This is after a week of burning matra and northern warmth supremes. Not to bad. Wasn’t to impressed with the northern warmth. Feel like matra is just as hot and I was getting hard clunkers with the northern warmth.
