Are northern warmth supreme Douglas fir with $400 a ton?

100% White Pine, in general..
My personal experience/usage, is only with Matra.
But people that I respect here, that have used AWF, and/or Vermonts,
share, what I believe to be endorsement of the White Pines....
Again, my opinion, I find them VERY close to DF's, at way less money..
And I use both... as well as several other softwoods.......

yea, those white pines are good, and have a huge shipping advantage over douglas fir.....costs alot to rail them out here.

All that being said, Doug Firs are our most expensive pellet. We sell more and more every year. Right now we are currently our of stock of the Northern Warmth Supreme Fir (Doug fir), and not sure when we shall see more. So, I have to guess that looking at the market, many folks actually DO feel they are worth more......but then again, we are $400/ton for them either. I remember when we first were selling pellets over $300/ton.....never figured they would sell....wrong again.

I’m kinda curious about mantra. I kinda want to buy a ton since I can’t just sample bags. Same with the easy blaze pines.

 

Can't go wrong with EZBlaze super premo softies. Blazing hot.using them past few years.

 

Cant go wrong here. I have burned at least a ton this year. Ash pan was hakf full to start the year and it still isnt full. Ash is super light and blows out of air holes. Heat is good little to no fines. Only downside is potential for bridging

 

I bought a ton of matras yesterday. I just cleaned my stove this morning and mixed a bag of those with the left over fsu I had in the hopper. Seem to burn hot and nice

 

Burned a bag or so if matras and they do burn very nice. Only thing I found was that there’s a good possibility of bridging. Idk why but it seems like almost all white pines I have used have kinda “stuck” together. But they definitely put out good heat and for $325 a ton they are worth it since most places close to me are selling dry creeks for $300.

 

Yup, those pine pellets will tend to bridge. Keep the hopper topped off and increase your fondling frequency, good to go.

 

Yes. Fondling is required if you are around the stove at times. I have waxed the inside walls but doesnt last all that long.

 

I just had a Harman xxv tc installed a few weeks ago. I had 1 ton of the supreme Douglass fir delivered with it. They burn with an incredibly low amount of ash. As for heat I can turn the max feed rate down to 55% to keep burning pellets 1 inch from edge of burn pot. Other pellets I have max feed up to 78%. While all this is nice I do not think they are worth $400 a ton and am currently trying 5 bags of every pellet I can get near me. So far I like the Barefoot pellets. Good compromise between performance and price. I have about 800 sq/ft to heat and with my stove I can probably get that done with any pellet. I suppose if your stove was struggling to heat your area the Douglass fir might be worth a try for the added BTU's.

My experience with Doug fir and Premium Pine Pellets is that you do not get a lot more BTU from the Doug Fir's than Super premium Pine pellets but this comes with a disclaimer I have not burned top of the line Doug Fir's . That will change as previously I could not justify the price but with Premium Pine pellets climbing in price I think I am going to give the top quality Doug Fir's a try .

What I can attest to as having burned them both some of the premium pine pellets burn even hotter than the lower end Doug Firs and I have had discussions with another whom actually sells both and he agreed.

 

I never really understood the 1” from the edge thing. I have the matras in now room temp set to 70 and a feed rate of 5 she’s got a big flame and it’s toasty in here

 

Feed rate at 5? What stove do u have? Harmans optimal feed rate is 4 and found that 3 is plenty hot at 70 or 75. Stove or constant mode even lower or it blows us out with too much heat.

 

I had fsu in it so there was a bunch of ash so I just didn’t change it. I should prob turn it down lol

 

BTW: i don't go by the 1" ash line theory......wherever the ash line is that's where it stays.. no problems..
