Exactly. The same people that just brought you 87000 new IRS agents...cuz among other things, they haven't figured out how to tax firewood...and/or control who gets/has it.
Of the money spent on oil had we purchased last season before the war, we'd have sacrificed $289 to taxes. That's 70 gallons of oil not gotten. Assuming oil prices and taxes don't change much, over 10 years, I save $2,890. In that same 10 years, cutting my own hair 6x/yr@ $15/cut, I save $900 ($2300 over the last 25 years)..... In a town of 28,000, assuming half are single family households using oil (the other half gas users or rentals), at $289/household, thats $4,046,000 in taxes scammed from the population. Or, if half the town's residents heated with cordwood, its that much less money in someone's budget. If 14,000 households quit the oil habit, that's 15,400,000 gallons of oil not burned (less because some oil is consumed in those same wood burning households), that many oil trucks not burning fuel, polluting, taking up street space etc... 'Course, thats fierce competition for cordwood, if 14,000 households burn 4 cord/yr, 56,000 cord would be consumed, sought after..... I bet there are only maybe a couple dozen here who heat with wood as a primary, and a few dozen more who heat with wood supplementarily.
Same. Switched from oil to gas. The wood stove went in a few weeks after the new gas unit went in, since the chimney used by the oil burner was vacated. I use our oil bill as reference, as we have never used the gasser to heat the house for the 2 winters we've had it. I run it once in the fall, and once in the spring to be sure it works....it self fires only a few times in winter.
