Can you go see the pile (or even better, the truck load) before he brings it?

That would have been the time to reload the wood and if he came out, give him back his dollars...minus a loading fee.

One really big lesson here for new burners. Before you install that stove, make sure you have a supply of fuel for it and make sure that supply will keep on coming. It is a lot different for some of us who already own our own woodlot but some seem to make out in other ways like states allowing cutting on public land or tree trimmers or just by keeping their eyes open for possible scrounging opportunities. Owning a truck or trailer for sure will go a long ways in that case. And if it turns out to cost as much heating with wood as with oil or gas or electric, you have not gained much.

Unfortunate and gives honest sellers (if there are any in the area) a bad name. I often wonder if buyers know what a measured cord is or even care to?

When i sell either a face (1/3) cord or half cord, i take a pic of the stack then a second pic with a 4'x8' sheet of plywood against it. Gives potential buyers a scale to go by AND i state the stack pictured is what they are buying. Luckily most of mine are regular customers.

I would get loads of uncut logs and process your own IMO! Save yourself the stress and frustration.

You should check out JRider. He’s from NJ & sells firewood. Maybe you guys aren’t to far apart.

Thanks but even though Jersey is a small state, we are probably 2 hours apart

Ok n California, it's actually not legal to do that. Once you install it, it's theirs. And if they don't pay you, you have to take them to court to get your money. Very little protection for contractors here.

I think I'd keel over dead to see one of the dealers here go to that much trouble.

Sorry to hear that RabbleRouser, you would think there would be at least a reputable firewood company out there somewhere you can hookup with year after year. The more I've learned from this site over the years the more I've begun to realize that most folks around these parts don't really know much about firewood and wood burning even though they sell firewood. That's not saying I do either because I am new at this as well.

I've see ads selling wood as "seasoned" ready to burn cut 3 weeks ago. I've tried to buy wood last year claiming it was 3yrs old dry as a bone only to find it was shrink wrapped and soaked to the core. After dealing with the fella I just simply realized he just didn't really understand 100% despite he was selling wood all over FB trying to make an extra buck or two.

Scrounging is tough sometimes why I've never made the 3yr plan mark also because like you am not sure I am going to be here next winter. I have natural gas so my burning isn't much savings but it's helping a bit for sure especially if you consider how much warmer the home is. If I raised the thermostat that much to match the heat output of the stove I'd be spending a TON more. We do it more for the type of warmth it provides and it's a fun hobby for me when I have the time. My kids even love it, just last week it was a bit chilly they came running in saying Dad you gonna light a fire? The night or two I did my son laid on the floor in front of it with his sleeping bag just staring at it.

Sounds like you need to get on that Outta NJ Train everyone is getting on  I know the fella who is driving that train WeldrDave .....

When I sell wood I always underestimate the amount so my 1/2 cord is just short of 2/3. And I never list it as seasoned. Instead I put the month it was split and let them figure it out. I only sell about 10-12 cords a year.

Don't buy from them anymore, call them and tell them why!!!
    They don't give two $#!Ts!
And jail would be the next stop "sadly"... But, I would have delivered a big box of $#!T to him Via UPS!!!  Real $#!T!
You can "IF" they are a legit business!
    Dam Toot'n!
RabbleRouser , most of these guys don't give a dam! I'm down here in the South land and it's not different. Go find ya a tree guy and drop a case of beer in his lap, You'll get more wood than you bargained for eventually. Those guys have to pay tipping fees at the dump to get rid of trees. If they can dump loads at your house, they save "big" $$$$. It's a win, win...

I hope when everyone here in Hell get's the chance "GO"!!! And don't look back. Most of us on this forum are here for various reasons and some actually like it here. I don't like a dictatorship!!! :headbang: And that's what this state has become. There are very Pretty places in New Jersey and thats the sad part. But, I now believe "you can gold plate a turd, but you still have a turd"! :zip:

I would say I agree but "Very, very close"!!! :headbang: And, I'll also say Northern Californina is absolutely beautiful, It's so sad to say "Nut's" run the trees, not the other way around! The politicians have completely lost their marbles.
