That is a great idea. If you sell it for $300, promote it as $1 + $299 delivery fee or something like that. If you deliver 300 sticks, leave him one, lol.
As god is my witness I would have waited a few weeks then magically he would have woken up with some slashed tires or broken windows
check your state law but get a receipt of delivery because without it, it doesn't matter. Here in ohio you can contact I believe the dept of ag. You can report them for their shadiness. It's the only way to keep people honest. That's why I scrounge as much as I can. To avoid all that because I dealt with it myself the first 2 years before I had a truck.
I believe in Ohio it's the department of weights and measures. If I remember correctly when I was selling firewood some guys got in trouble for selling ricks and face cords, which are not recognized as a standard measurement.
I am just a vindictive sob I guess. It reminds me one time plowing snow. Guys wife sets up for me to plow their driveway for $100. I come out, see the husband looking out the storm door and just as I was about done he comes out waving his arms saying he found someone to do it for $55. I asked why it took so long to come out...long pause so I say ok and proceed to pile the end of his driveway with 3’ of plow pushed snow I know he wouldn’t move with his shovel. Never heard from him or his wife again.
I used to be in the tile trade. Worked for a guy once that installed a tub/shower splash in a new construction home, then the contractor said he wasn't going to pay. Nothing wrong with the job, he was just a jerk. Boss called him and said pay or we will repossess. Contractor laughed at him. Boss went over, smashed all the tile and morter off the wall with a sleeve hammer, and piled it in the front yard. Technically it was illegal for him to do that but he didn't care. Contractor had a cow. It was GLORIOUS!!!
I either stack cords in my little wood lot, or if it's just piled in the wood lot, I stack it in my dump trailer, so I know I have a full cord before delivery. If I stack it in the wood lot, I always offer for the customer to come look at it if they want so they can see and measure if needed.
The only State firewood area in New Jersey is about a three hour drive from me. I would do a log load if I could, but I live on the side of a mountain, no way one of those trucks could get down my driveway much less back up. "Buy, but haul your own with a known volume truck or trailer?" - Four to Six round trips starts to make paying the oil man seam a lot more viable. My most viable option is to get the hell out of New Jersey. That's why I'm not three years ahead on my wood stores, every year I say something to the effect of "if I'm still here next winter, I'll shoot myself". Then next winter comes and the nightmare continues.
I will be calling the joker Monday morning. He'll either send up another 1/2 - 2/3 cord or I will be reporting him. What kills me is his add on CL stated "When stacked out a cord will measure 4ft x 4ft x 8ft or 128 cubic ft." Don't mean to disparage all firewood dealers out there. I understand there are jerks on both sides & the guys that act like this make it impossible for the honest guys to make a decent living at it.
Shady firewood sellers are why I switched to making my own firewood! Short cords, delayed deliveries, splitter trash and bark mixed in, punky stuff, you name it. And once the price went over $200 a skimpy cord, nuts to that.
I stopped selling firewood a long time ago we put sides on a pickup and stacked each cord in the truck many times we heard the same story from people about not getting a full cord or Why did you bring me so much wood?? we only asked for a cord . That was back in the 70's and you could load a cord in a pickup and not get a fine for overload Dad did the driving (his truck ) Had many customers give tips For your dilemma maybe talk to tree removal people in your area sometimes the smaller companies want to get rid of wood free especially if you can go to their job and pick it up GOOD LUCK JB
