Just checked and I'm out of yeast. Grr. Ordered a 10 pack of EC1118. It is resistant to 18% so the cider gets pretty stout. I'll have about $1.25 per gallon in it between yeast and extra sugar.
Had planned on pressing today but the rainy day yesterday slowed things down. Not sure if we'll get it done tomorrow or not but for sure this weekend sometime will be our first batch. It will be a small batch but a start.
No clue but the truck is squatting a bit. Probably 600 - 800 lbs of apples. I'll start pressing this evening.
Shazam, that's a bit. I was complaining about cutting the little bucket of crabapples up for jelly last week. My buddy has about two bushel. Wait until I show him this picture...
WoW! How 'bout them apples! Someone needs to open an AHC (apple hoarders club) Sounds like you've Got a good plan....... can't wait for the processing pics!
Getting going next door. This is a cast iron base with center screw. I'm going to forge him some release pins that were missing. Lots of cutting apples right now, no macerator. This was used for grapes, I don't know how apples will turn out. I think there needs to be wood plates between layers of apples.
Well, 10 gallons of apples crushed down and pressed yielded just over a gallon. A macerator is really needed. It was good, a little tart though. A lot of labor. Luke is set for production, we are just novices.
