Anyone ever ask landowners about dead trees?

Lord I scoured the web every day for over a year looking for a good deal on a used dump trailer. Even a decent deal. Everyone wants almost full price for a clapped out old trailer rusting off the frame. A few decent trailers at good price turn out to be scams. “I’m in the army, it’s in Nebraska and I’ll ship it to you” type deals LOL
You ask why don’t you sell it in Nebraska? Never hear from them again.
One morning I had had enough and just took off in the truck with the intent of driving until I came home with a new one. Seems even if trailer stores have them listed as in stock that’s not always true. “Sold that one a year ago, haven’t updated the site”.
They are becoming popular. It’s hard to buy a decent plow for a 1500 series truck these days. A 2500+ series you can get a decent plow but they’re so tall it’s hard to use them for work. A trailer of sorts is almost a prequisite.

Oh I got very spoiled on my first real scrounge :)
Because there were no houses or power lines on that stretch of road they dropped the full tree and just let it lay.
Back in, pull out the tape measure and fire up the saw. Stop making logs when you hit the crotch :)
It really doesn’t get better than that.
There’s still some on FB marketplace where they have stacks of logs but it’s a further drive now.

Big John would be an awesome addition to your saw(s)
Always nice to remember your beginnings.

Oh yes. This type of story does happen more often than most people realize. So sometimes it does pay to help your neighbor but don't go into it expecting some return; that is the wrong attitude. Just help others because it is the right thing to do.

He bought me a Stihl 028 when I was 17. Somehow the saw was run on raw gas and ruined. Got thrown out or scrapped. I'd like to find a decent used one of the same and do that.

By the way buZZsaw BRAD not sure if you noticed the engraving from my avatar picture or you saw some older threads giving you the backdrop on that engraving. If you haven't, you can check out all about the legendary MS290 here........

I would put an ad on craigslist and turn down any tree that could fall the wrong way and land on a building or power lines or anything.
