I don't know if they are better than Traeger pellets but last summer I purchased Green Mountain, and Cookingpellets.com. They are both good pellets but IMO Green Mountain brand had less dust, less handling maybe. They all have worked well, just keep them dry.
I also have used all the types of GMG pellets and like them, Have heard nothing but good things about cookingpellets especially their perfect mix blend. I recently went in on a group buy on a ton of Lumberjack brand pellets. they have many types and blends and come in 40 pound bags, I have yet to use them but they get great reviews as well
So I have been using the PG-100 and the temp is giving me problems. Anyone else on here have one that can help? I have even replace the temp probe on the grill to board and still problems. When you set the temp sometimes it doesn't get to the correct temp at all , other times it over chutes the temp by 30 degrees or more To get the temp to idle around 200 degrees it takes an hour or more to stabilized it, and you have to constantly adjust it
I had problems with temps two times. The first I couldn't get the grill to stay up to temp after the first five minutes. Turned out that the co trol board for the thermostats went bad. That was a really easy fix and I got to upgrade to a better thermostat. Second time I couldmt get over 200-250 no matter what I did. Figured out that I had pellets that had soaked of moisture and just weren't burning right. Your problem sounds more like control issues with the thermostat. But they will flex a little on temps, mine usually stays pretty close to the desired temp
I've got one of the traegers myself. I love it. I was in the market for one because my buddies dad showed me his Daniel Boone from gmg and I needed to have one. I probably would have gotten the Boone except I got a great deal on a display model at Costco. Got about 180 off the price. My only gripe is the wheels and the legs suck on it. I'll probably end up making up new legs and slap a better set of wheels on them too.
Did Englander send you the parts? And when you say upgrade , what was upgraded ? Thanks, gonna give them a call.
My grill is a traeger, the upgrade was from an older to a newer style thermostat. My grill is over 10 years old and the original thermostat had three heat settings. The new one is a dial that I can set anywhere from 180 to around 400 I think. It has a digital readout that shows inside grill temp and keeps it really close to the desired setting. The upgrade wasn't free but they have me a really good price
You must have a newer one then I do, the one I have the legs and wheels are pretty solid. I think they changed a bit with new owners and being made out of the USA but I heard they changed a few things and are made better now.
Oh ok, well I called Englander and customer service is GREAT! Tech said it was the control board and they sent a new one out already. I have to say, they will get your product up and running no matter what they have to send. They even pay shipping .
I'm back looking at these pellet grills again. Seems that AMFM sells the Englander pg100 for 950$ shipped. That's much better than the $1200+ SST for the home depot. How's everyone liking their pg100s?
A reputable site for selling new and rebuilt Englander products. Mike actually refers people to them. Timber Ridge Pellet Grill
