well, they just keep coming.....................found a 200a black band on the cheap this morning, along with another 200a that will be a good parts or restore unit, also found a turd 275 cheap, and a couple fuel cans, including a "duke's fuel" r/c type fuel can i've never seen before, i have several cox/thimble-drome cans, i thought it would fit in nicely with them, not a bad days hunting...........
What a great thread. I have been bitten by the lantern bug recently and am watching youtube videos on old colemans and ebay for deals. I want a duel fuel to run the Amish mix which is part Kerosene and part Coleman fuel. I bought a small propane Coleman with 2 mantles. Brother tore my mantles, so I have to get new ones. The light on a Coleman is great. I will read the whole thread for sure to learn more.
That's basically the lantern I bought minus the custom globe. Has a removable plastic base which attaches to the propane bottle after you unpack. I love the lantern. Brother tore my mantles and then told me they are 29 cents each. Yeah...maybe in 1970
Craigslist, garage sales and ebay for around $20. remember shipping on ebay will ruin a good deal. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. Parts are real easy to find too. Good luck, and post pictures of what you find.
Got a duel fuel today on amazon for $66 with a storage case. I took a trip to the woodpile. Had to turn it way down for the pic. Feels more solid than the one I bought which screws onto a propane cylinder. That one is mostly plastic and this one at least is metal. Not as solid as the older ones, but the price was right for something I knew would work and all new mechanicals.
i should be finishing up a 1948 nickle fount model "228D" this weekend, i'll get pics up when i'm done..........here's a pic of a restored one, mine's starting look real good, just need to start putting it back together.............
i've got a thing for mantle lamps as well, i picked up a coleman CQ a couple days ago on the cheap that i'll be re-doing in the future, i also have a 168k coleman and an akron lamp as well................
it all depends on condition, restored or unrestored, i bought another '48 "D" this morning off the bay just like the one i'm finishing up, it was a BIN i got for 24. shipped, but it will also be one i restore..........
i picked up a green 220F on fleabay. it says it's from '72. i want a red 200a and a brown 275. Not for a little while. It's no fun if you get everything at once. what do you think of the 275? it's a great brown color and i like that it's squatty in appearance. i think a red 200 would be the pinnacle. they sell high
gotta watch the 275, it was the first model to use a schrader valve, they're prone to leakage, and can burn/blow up, if fixed they're ok, which is why they're referred to as the "turd" (also because of the color), i have an NOS one, and one other that looks to be new, but needs some cleaning, let me know if you'd be interested in one, i've got some extra 200a's as well, a couple classic pics of the 275........
as promised, here's the 228D i just finished, the one pic shows what kind of condition it was in only five days ago, hard to believe what a little bit of lemon juice can do!! (and alot of rubbing)..........
purdy. i'll be in touch on the 200a. pm me offline with a price if interested. coleman lanterns are sweet. can i run coleman fuel in the 200?
the 275's still have a following...............i just picked up a Prentiss-Wabers made for sears model l46s on the cheap yesterday, i would have passed on it, but it had a nice original Coleman globe in it (actually it's the globe in the 228D that i just finished) which made it worth buying, i think i could get the Prentiss to work again, i may, or part it out on ebay, it does look alot like a 275 Coleman, but much bigger, the color is nearly the same............a pic of a l46s Prentiss.............
i'll keep in touch about the 200a's or 275's..............yep, you can run Coleman fuel in the 200's, well, any Coleman GPA lantern, except ones made to burn on kerosene, they use a different generator, and have a preheater cup that burns alcohol to preheat the generator...........
still want to get my hands one a couple of the sears labeled Colemans....well, just because...........i do have an AGM kamplite on the way to my address to hold me over until i find a sears/Coleman....
