I need some learning. What is up with a 220j if you fire it up and it flames up turn off the gas. Come back a few min later put a match in and it takes off runs ok. Go to shut it down a couple hours later and realize that the throttle knob didn't get opened and is in the closed position still. Had to crack the tank cap to shut down.
Can't help you with the valve,,too early for my thinking cap,, I think it's a bad idea to relieve pressure with the cap when the lantern is hot,,I tried it that on a 200 and got a flash of fire!!
I remember an old farmstead house on a piece of land my grandparents owned that had the fixtures removed but the fittings stuck out of the wall. If I recall though they said something about it being for Acetylene.?
Looks like a pretty nice fixture. I scored one of a "simpler design" with a wire mesh cage for 50 cents, it even has a package of Humphery matles..I have yet to fool with it. Is the collar on that adjustable for different elevation?
I think the collar does effect the brightness from what little I've read, I need to find more info on these L/P jobs.....
Had a couple lamps fired up over the long weekend, another early CQ with an unknown shade that I found Saturday, and my 118 "slant" that's sporting a ruby red diamond shade......
I got an idea from the last post. A guy at work asked me if I had any idea how to get good red light for night fishing. The ruby diamond shade made me thunk...I didn't find a globe for a 220 that was red glass but has anyone ever heard of any type of temperature tolerant film or stain that can be put on a globe?
I just checked, oldcolemanparts.com has the red and amber globes. Amber was like 19 clams(+shipping) would be my choice for fishing.. Red globe was a little saltier . "Cigar Mike" is a one man show @ oldcolemanparts.com and he is an honest guy with very fair prices and good shipping. The site can be slow, be patient, you'll be hard pressed to find better pricing, or a better guy. His website, oldcolemancollectors is a great bunch of guys with a wealth of knowledge. I'd bet that just about every aspect of restoring/rebuilding old lanterns can be found there.
What makes you think amber vs red. My thoughts were that red light isn't supposed to harm your night vision.
I dunno, I have a couple Amber globes and they work well enough. Don't have a red globe (on a Coleman), I wonder how bright they'd be
You guys got me into this so it is ur faults! I am going to do a rebuild which will be my first. What tips do you have for my rookie run on a rebuild? Whats the best way to clean out an old fuel pick up tube, break the valve from tank, ect ect?
242c that was given to me by a very close friend of the family. It was bought buy her parents and she is 85. Thinks the last it ran was in the 50s.
