Yes, avoid Chicago at all costs. I, unfortunately have almost no choice in avoiding Chicago. I'm directly north of that city north of Milwaukee, along the western shore of lake Michigan. Nowhere near far enough north to just go through the UP, then down. What's even funnier is that the classic freeway footage from "the blues brothers" was actually filmed in Milwaukee. Not Chicago. Lol
There's a couple. They don't run until after the gtg. At least last year. I'll need to look for this year, but I doubt it
It would be a good time to catch yourself a nice long nap. There’s another member that works near you and lives in Michigan. He will hop on the ferry once in awhile so he can get some sleep rather than drive. I believe the ferry takes just slightly more time, depending on your destination obviously
That has happened more than once. When we decided to host a GTG my wife said it would be okay, but only once...
A nice trip is to go to the bridge either up the middle of the state and return along the west side, at least down as far as Manistee, then return on M-115 which runs nw/se.
And if you run short of cash one can easily find a job carrying a shovel, pushing a wheelbarrow and following the horses.
Many times they will let you cross as long as you stay along side of a tractor trailer. Scary though.
If traffic is heavy one can take 30, which is south of 80. Take that to 65 then back to 80. Distance about the same without stop and go. However I am told since they removed the toll gates the traffic flow has improved. Do consider taking up Joel's offer to ride with him.
Thanks, I have a couple ideas for some door prizes and I'm planning on bringing something you have been wanting...
I just confirmed, that neither the SS badger out of Manitowoc or the lake express out of mke is operating until after the GTG though.
