My 2 cents... Last year at the beginning of September the squirrels were destroying the white oak acorns - a good 3-5weeks ahead of normal. We had one of the coldest winters on record here, several stretches of single digit lows, even saw 0F here one morning This year they have yet to touch them, and are just starting on the hickory nuts, about 3-4weeks late on them as well. Could be a shortage of squirrels from the tough winter, or they have other sources
We had the cold last year but not the snow, me thinks might have the snow this year but not the bitter cold. Do not like the idea of an early winter though, comes early enough already.
Leaves changing and falling here. Squirrels busy for a couple weeks now, foraging nuts. Morning temps in the house low 60's.One fire so far.
As usual, the forecast through the end of the month keeps changing, but looks like we may only need a couple small fires before October. This is gooder. A lot of snow is good for the lakes and ground water, but becomes a real problem by January or February. I run out of places to push it.
I hope it is not any worse than last winter. I know by the end of April last year I was ready for a break from burning wood. I have yet to start a fire in the boiler since then! I did have the chimney cleaned the other day though. I will begin moving wood in under the porch a little at a time the first few weeks of October. I have plenty of wood for winter and will fill up all the gas tanks for the genny. Always nice to have a couple of back-ups.
