I shave my head occasionally how would this work on it. I have the same problems as when i do actually shave my face. No matter how much i cut it with trimmers I still clog disposable razors.

Thought about going that route but scared I'll cut my head off. Is it difficult to learn. I have a few nice old straight razors that belonged to my Greatgrandfather or would you recommend new?

It does take a while to learn and there is a learning curve, but it is well worth it. Don't try to shave with your great grandfather's razors yet. You will need to send them out to get honed. Check out straightrazorplace.com or badgerandblade.com and find some gentlemen there who will treat your PRICELESS HEIRLOOMS the right way. Vintage razors are great just hone em up and go!!!!

You are right they could never be replaced. If I decide to give it a go I might get a new one. I would rather spend the money and keep the old man's and not have to worry about shipping them and all that stuff. Going to give a safety razor a go first. I don't shave often.

If using a real straight, one will need to have a strop as well. There are many vendors out there now-a-days!! Stropping needs to be done before every shave. You might also use a disposable straight that is available at barber supplies. They use either a special blade or half a double edge blade. Beard prep is a must and stay away from the canned shaving cream. Use a brush and a quality shave soap/cream made for the purpose.

I switched from cream/gel in a can to shaving soap and horse hair brush about 4-5 years ago and I'll never go back. I usually just trim to that 3 day growth look but when I do need a close shave, it with the shaving soap and what ever decent disposable I've picked up on sale. I've converted a few other guys too. A co-worker had issues with razor rash and ingrown hairs and he tried all the high end sensitive skin creams and gels. He switched a couple of years ago to the soap and he'll never go back either.

Went out this week and got a haircut and a beard trim the barber used a straight razor to clean up the edges and let me tell you theres something so nice about getting that done. I dont know if Ill ever get my whole face shaved with one as I have no plans of ever shaving again but Im sure its better than just the lines I get done every six months or so.
