I used Fastenal once for a winch from Stinny . They have reduced rates for dead head runs.

I thought of that too...but if the seller is not willing to crate it up...and having used them for something like this before, I guarantee they would want it crated.
I wonder if they are even offering their shipping service now...they were a company that really clamped down for CV19...

Screwloose, if you can get it delivered closer to Elkins and we can figure out how to get it transfered to my truck (Oops, meant Prius) this may still be possible. How much does it weigh, can it be man handled without forks?

It seems like they are still on the job. I checked and no crate = no insurance = smushed. Plus to much money.

They wouldn't ship my item without a crate, insurance or not...their rates run about 1/2 of standard truck shipping.

Thanks so much for the offer but it's not meant to be this time around. Sometimes I guess I do have a screw loose.
Fewer and fewer mechanical sirens are being manufactured and installed do to cost and difficulty with being run on DC battery backup. Much cheaper to put in a loudspeaker and play siren sounds. But a true siren is a piece of mechanical art. Put A 5,10,20 even 50 horsepower motor way up on a pole in any weather and in an instant it spins a heavy rotor at 3600 rpm just to make noise. The balance, tight clearances, different and combined ports numbers to arrive at a specific frequency. And some put in during the cold war are still diligently performing their duty. I just see another example of our mechanical craftsmanship history going the way of the scrap yard.
Thanks again for your support especially to someone you don't know, about something that most people couldn't care less about. It's just another example of what makes this place great!!

Yes, Stinny built an awesome crate for it!!! We ended up insulating it, putting a pet heating pad in it, and a microchip door on it for stray wildcat that adopted us.

Screwloose I live within 30 minutes of Hedgesville if I can assist. I could hold it until you got the logistics figured out.

Are you sure you want to get involved ? It's less than a 100 pounds, and I'm more than willing to compensate you for your trouble. Still not sure how to get it from you to me.

Sounds like the seller should prepare for a low-ball offer inbound...;)

It's on the army truck in the barn, I'll try to snap one later. The door is a cat door with a click lock that only opens when the animal with the programmed microchip goes up to it, so other cats and racoons etc. can't get in.

I see you are in VA,wish you were 30 miles east of Hedgesville, then we could have met somewhere in the middle.

Screwloose as far as shipping goes, I was going to buy a set of take off cab steps for my truck from a guy in AZ. 200 for the steps, 400 to ship, no sale.

It’s not far at all. I would be glad to help if you are the winning bidder.
