You are correct on that muffler - it is stainless steel ... however the 372xp is steel to the best of my knowledge ... my point was u can easily drill em out and enlarge the hole rinse and repeat until you are satisfied with the performance... I suppose you can do the same by brazing it ; heating it to temp and after enlarging hole rebraze ... if concerned about the “longevity” of the aluminum rivers u can braze/weld or use nut/bolt washer and peen thread once you are at the desired opening size ...

Well my timing light must be off kilter because after machining the key .020 my timing advanced on the 261c to 28degrees ... I’ve run the saw for about 10 tanks and it doesn’t seem to have reset back to the stock setting ... in the interest of the truth I will check it and see if the mtronic challenged it back to stock and report the results

I’m no expert by any means that’s for sure but I go 5psi acetylene and 20psi oxy with I think #2 welding tip just low and slow. It’s flux coated rod that’s probly 10 years old too   I think I got this one a little warm it seemed to flow out pretty far but looking to the inside there’s good filling so it works for me! Kind of fun to play around with. I’ve done a couple other mufflers and they are still together so I guess that’s what counts!:D

I think you're close. You may have been a tiny bit hot or the tip too big, given the width of your braze. But it's pretty dang close

Can I do it with a map torch? And the rods I had looked at were flux coated.

What light are you using? Mine will not register past around 10k. Last time I heard Scott was also looking for a light that will work correctly where these saws wot.

Probably. The problem is, the braze goes to the red metal. The wider your heat, the wider your braze

Great advice, thanks Kevin. Is there a negative to it being wide?

Remove about 95% of the flux from the rod with a wire wheel, pliers, knife or other means. It will help you out immensely.

My next door neighbor is a welder and just bought a Tig set up as his retirement present to himself he said he’d teach me I can’t wait to test it out!
i notice with all the flux on I have to be able to differentiate between molten flux and bronze while laying it down. Then after I’ve got a bunch of “glass” to chip or brush off especially if I’m going to paint it! Thanks for the tip I’ll give it a rip with a naked rod next time :bug::rofl:

I do it all the time. I've swapped bottles about 4 times at home this year.

Been a long time since I tried & failed at brazzin. This was one of my issues. I'll have to retry. Thanks for the tip Fifelaker

Last time I did it on my 55 muffler. Got done, hey this looks great painted it then put her to work and a few heat cools later the flux all popped to show my terrible braze
