    Kinda like the tulip poplars in my back woods. Stumps cut years ago and multiple trees growing out of them. Lots of trees do that and some not at all.

    A copper nail or two driven into a stump kills the trees. Let me know if you need any. Tried and true.

    Not suckers, but roots sent out and away from the "mother" tree sometimes many feet and a new tree sprouts up. Ive observed this in BL groves. Ive heard if the "mother" tree is killed all the others die as well.

    Black Locust & Honey Locust are terrible about sending out runners. Osage will do it some but not as bad in my experience.
