Heading out this morning to see what I can find. I believe it’s all but over here. The woods will be too thick after next week.

I've been looking every day in our front yard. No morels yet. I'll get out to the wood lot next week now that it's rained a bit. I was there a few days ago, looking for the smaller grey and blacks, and did not see any evidence yet. The ground was bone dry though. So surely the rain will get things going, along with return to normal temperatures.

Ok. That's enough encouragement for me. I'll go to my monster blond morel spot very soon.

Did not gather any fungi today. Had to mow lawn and accompany my bride to two green houses.
maybe Sunday I can hunt again

Those are pretty big, but some of them that I found last year were massive. When they make my hands look small, then that's a big morel.

Link us to that article. Might be a new career path at $35 a lb here locally!

On another note the hunt has been slow here for me. My usual spots on my property have produced zero while some other areas have provided a few here and there. Heading out this morning to hunt them in the hills of NE Iowa. At least I'll get some excerise! Good luck everyone.

Edit, a quick search identified Morel growing kits. Obviously news to me! Interesting. Hmmm.

Just found this in the side yard.... what do I do with it? Is there anything I can do to promote the growth of more?

When you pick it, cut the base with a knife, and after you pick it, shake the shroom around close to the ground. Then hope....

Obviously cut it in half to make sure it's hollow, but it sure looks like the real deal.

To prepare it, soak it in water to get any bugs and dirt off of it. Then part it dry and cut it up. Lots of recipes... Morel and crab risotto is amazing. You can even use canned crab.

Thanks Horkn ! Put it in a paper bag for now to dry it out. Turned the sprinkler on to hopefully promote more growth. Will take it to the backyard to hopefully shake some spores out. Prob won’t eat it until I get more or am relatively sure the season is over. Planning to go walking through the woods after the next rain.
