They found 60 more....between the two batches we have a plastic walmart bag full. I'm going to go try my luck after a little while.

I just took a walk out back here. I did find a mushroom. I thought it was a little early to see anything. Maybe there is some potential. Lots of decay and leaves back there. Rain in the forecast for tomorrow.

Consumption of that will reside in a ride on the Schroom express. If lucky, you'll be able to get off of it.

I left it there. I don't know anything about them. I did watch some YouTube video's and many of them had a lot of green vegetation in the woods. Things are just budding out here. Lilacs are maybe two weeks away. Forsythia is blooming now. There is a lot of good information on the web.

MikeInMa, I didn't do any prospecting "yet" for any of that up on my land, I'm wondering if anything is up there? I did find "Indian pipes", Had no Idea what they were and I believe Midwinter knew exactly what they were. God only knows whats up there... Can't wait to do a "good scout" :D:cool: Just can't wait to get up there!!! :):tears:

I'll check at my woods, but this cold snap certainly isn't going to be helping the shrooms to pop. I checked the front yard under the dead ash that I find a good amount at last year. Nope. Then I proceeded to mow the lawn. It's supposed to be nearly 60° on Thursday. That will help.

I went out back today, and found my first one after 10 minutes. I'll pick it and verify. Family is in disbelief.

Is it hollow? If so, you are golden!

They are awesome on a pizza with a white or evoo sauce and carmelized onion, roasted garlic, parmesan, basil and a good Italian sausage. OMG. So good.

Haven't picked it yet. Just found another about thumb size. Is that OK to eat when they are small? We have all sorts of animals here that may eat them if I don't pick them.

Yeah, you can pick them at any time, but I let them grow so they are a decent size. When you harvest them, don't use a plastic bag, ideally use a mesh bag so that the spores can spread around outside for the next crop.

Doesn’t keeping them in mesh allows for breathing?

Also a crab morel risotto is another big favorite of mine. I've used Dungeness crab, but maybe a local pinky toe crab or lobster would work as well.

I can get you the recipe we use later. I'm not finding it online, and the recipe we use is in an old book.

That too. A paper bag in the fridge will keep them fresh

Learning a little bit here and there helps. I haven’t harvested any, but the chance comes up I’m prepped. Hollow morels huh?

Yes. If they are not hollow, DO NOT eat them. Throw them away. True or false morel? How to tell the difference
