    You were the spark.

As I said.. it's lurked in my background for a long time.

Was watching a livecast on YouTube today, two of the chat members were 14 and 15 yrs old.

One (15) had his AE already, and the 14 yr old was hoping to have AE before his 15th BD.

I was/am impressed by those youths.

The 14 yr old in NH has over 1300 contacts in his QRZ logbook.

    Freakin impressive.

You on QRZ at all Well Seasoned ?

Edit.. For those not in "the know".. QRZ is a website/forum for Ham's.

One can look up other call signs, BS, get advice, browse the swap meet.

It's not as friendly as FHC, but not much else is.

In the Pines I'm not sure if you caught the edit.. so a shout out.
    :)

Well Seasoned Can you post a name or link of what you consider a better antenna please? Are the antennas brand specific, or is the connection universal? Was thinking of the cheap boefang, but now you and Chaz have me considering the step up digatal. If you are transmitting on the digital, can the cheaper boefang be the repeater?

thats what I just bought with the uv5+. I stayed with the cheap radio, I can always step it up if and when I decide to get more serious.
I don't think it posted right? I don't see anything but I run blockers
    so here is another link?

Expert power antenna to exchange ther baofeng uv5r or others on 2 meter or 70cm.

A radio with both Digital and analogue would be best. I run the baofeng dm-1701. You can run the uv5r as a repeater. Must have an ffc license to transmit except on certain frequencies

It's still in the amazon box :emb: Yes I'll need to study books to learn more, was hoping we could atleast learn how to listen with the directions in the box. You know, way beyond FHC I am sol without the internet. We do not have local news other than internet and AM Radio is only Cheyenne. Anyway I bought this from:
and antenna (also suggested in this thread). Things are out of whack here, might be a day or two to get into it. I promise you and your Bride I'll snap a pic when get it out :)

Any of the other Hams use Echolink?

I just installed it on the phone today.
    Figured I'd check it out.

For the aspiring Ham's, you have to be licensed in order to utilize echolink.

The club that I tested at is having a net (an organized chat group) tonight, gonna see if I can pop in.
