    Hard to like that.

    Edit in progress..

Glad to hear you have a local Elmer that you know.

I'm sure he will teach you a lot.

Not sure why it entails you leaving the site though.

Nothing keeping you away, unless it's family matters.. those take priority.. but ya can stop by once a month and chit-chat.

Either way, it is ultimately your decision, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not interested in your advancement in the hobby.

Whatever happens, I wish you and your family well, and plz let me know your call sign.. hopefully we'll meet on the air.

We will see how the summer progresses with the unmentionable realities. My wife and I haven't decided if the kids will return to gov school or not yet. Well, we don't even know if the school will start on time. They have three more weeks to figure it out before I make a command decision. If they do not return, we will have to spend time with them on open forums. Everything I do for a living is dictated by disease and politics. The kids need to learn this stuff sadly, as it is part of the real world:emb:. Time constraints you know. I understand the heavy censoring. I sure wish we could ignore what is going on, but until I'm finished raising this batch....being a father is number one mission.

On a happy note, my son, and daughter are going to study with me on getting the general license.:thumbs: We will all ride together to test. Even if they decide not to stick with it, they'll have ten years to get back into it. Win, win. I would only have to leave due to time restraints, and priorities.

Yeah, a lot has happened in the last few months

Not always easy to process, and the site is committed to unity

    Now that's great

Listen.. I'm not gonna tell you what you should do.. but I'll hint at it
    ;)

Talk to your Elmer about buying/borrowing a VHF/UHF radio.. if the kids aren't inspired by an ISS contact, I don't know what to say

Try to let your kids know that the electrical/electronic knowledge can make for an interesting, potentially profitable, future.

But then again.. I was a computer nerd as a teen. I'm biased

Hopefully I can get my General ticket by next year and some HF gear. I listened some this weekend on VHF/UHF, but the bands were really quiet. Only guys talking about how good the HF side was. I was a bit sad...

Hope you do go after your General.

Not much VHF/UHF around here either.
Too much hilly terrain to support much distance.

Repeaters are about all I can muster here.

Lots of people hiking this weekend in the mountains. Just made a contact on simplex that was just over 10o miles away on 2 meters. He was at 8800' elevation and was full scale running 5 watts. Made some other SOTA contact this weekend at over 100 miles away from my station. Lots of fun until I get my general ticket and save up some $$$ for gear.

    Awesome contacts

I'd imagine being at 8800' altitude helps get that signal out

    Yeah, like 40x the distance!

have you done anything with any of the digital VHF/UHF modes like Yeasu fusion, DMR, etc? I have a couple of Fusion radios, but only one fusion repeater that I can hit with my base station. think ing of getting a hotspot. then can do a lot of the different modes.

Not really.. not equipped for that at the moment.

I've just the HT (Beofeng) for VHF/UHF currently.

Focused primarily on HF once I decided that I was gonna do this.

I really do want to focus on a good VHF/UHF radio at some point. I want to do an ISS contact.
    :dex:

Haven't done anything as far as Yeasu Fusion, DMR, or the like..

That will likely help decide what rig I'll purchase in the future.

Will have to research what form is most used in my area.

Yeah, that's the best way to go. Or, you can get a hotspot and do all of them. Lots of money to send on things we want.

    You got that right
:emptywallet: or :makeitrain"depending on your budget

Haven't looked into hotspots yet.. Are they the link between internet and radio?

Yeah, that's one way. And you can use just about all the modes through it like D-Star, Yaesu System Fusion, DMR, Etc. Pretty cool if you into that.

Amazing, I haven't been on FHC in a while (6 months, year...?). I just came on to check in... and just thought, let me go post a question in the Hobbies forum, "Are there any HAMs here?". I kid you not!! I click on the forum and low and behold a couple threads down is "Any HAM Operators here..?".

Well, KD2UDQ here, soon to be K2STP by the end of the month (filed for a vanity sign). I just got my license after thinking about it for oh, about 40 years!! Nothing like a good long procrastination! :D I'm not even on the air yet, have a couple grand worth of equipment sitting in boxes behind me, getting ready to setup a shack in my office next few weeks.

    PM sent

So glad to see another ham on the site

I've been having a blast so far.

Gonna be trying another mode that I just learned about.

    ALE... Automatic Link Establishment

My antenna is resonant everywhere except the high portion of 80M.. go figure.. right in General territory

But, once I pass AE exam it'll be great on the low end

I hope you read the whole thread.. it's been great.

Well Seasoned got the train rolling.. I just hopped on
