Still waiting for the bear family to go to sleep for the winter before I feed birds. Last week there was a batch of chickadees and then some sparrows (of undetermined type). Those are passerbys. A family of crows comes by a couple of times a week to see if there are any eggshells in the compost bin and to harass the local squirrels and cats. Did hear a blue jay or two in the last couple of days. Robins and cat birds are long gone - haven't heard them for at least a month. Although it is not horribly uncommon to see robins during cold months, it isn't common either. They tend to stay further east in the state where it stays warmer. Most trees are bare, except and I can see the huge squirrel nests way up in the branches.
I'm not for sure what species these two birds are, I photographed them today at the Jocelyn Nungaray NWR in coastal East Texas. Anyone with an identification or just a best guess will be greatly appreciated.
Dang, look at those bills! you have lots of birds that I don't have here in the upper Northeast, and that is one of them so I can't even take a guess.
