Ive finally got 90% of the wood from the CL ad. It reminds me of one of my favorite movies, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. The Good, almost all of the locust is solid. A couple pieces look like ants started on it. I split a 6" round, MM read 24%. Guessing close to 2 cords. Little more pine in the stack than I thought. Im fine with that. MM read 16% on the one piece I split. About 1.5 cord of useable stuff. Plus stuff for bon fires with the family. Some decent size rounds. Some oak in the stack as well. Not sure how much I have of that yet. A bunch of pieces that wont need splitting. 5" diameter and smaller. The Bad, some of the pine is too far gone. Tree service must of known I was going to get this because lengths vary from 16" to 30" and everywhere in between. Going to need to do some cutting. The Ugly is super ugly. In between the front stack and the rear stack is a stack of kindling size sticks. This is at the very end of the stack, so I never saw it. Going to be a PITA to move that. I would normally leave this stuff if I cut this in the woods, I said I would take all of it and Im a person of my word.
No I can't. The guy had a fire pit but someone stole it. I dont mind the wrist size stuff. But .5" and smaller, forget about it.
Between yesterday and today I finished hauling this home. The small stuff wasnt too bad to move as it was frozen together and I was able to pick up in large bunches. I have a first class mess on my hands. Now let the splitting commence!! (And the buying of much advil and blue emu) On a side note, I saw a tree company cut along the road on the way to work. Not sure if it belongs to a business or not. But I thought, I need to grab that. Even though I have this mess. I HAVE A SICKNESS.
Yep, good man finished the job as he stated he would. Nicely done sir! Don't fret the mess, it'll clean up & be forgotten in the warmth of a fire on a cold winter's day.
For two cord of locust i wouldve taken that, but ive got locust mania PITA to sort but it is what it is. Nice score BTW! Why was the wood never used Biddleman ?
Im not sure why he saved all of it. He had a firepit but he said that got stolen. Guess that's why he kept some smaller stuff. Its a lot of wood to burn in a firepit
I forgot to mention that I had to park along the side of a road that is kind of busy. I had cones out and four ways on, most people were ok. Had a couple of idiots. Anyway, as my son and I were loading, someone blew their horn. We looked to the road and saw a truck pulling a trailer loaded with rounds pass by. My son immediately said, "there's a hoarder."
See if a local high school is having a bonfire this fall, maybe you can drop some of it off. I got rid of 3 trailers of pallets that I volunteered to take from a friend who had to remove them from his property. I agreed to take them thinking I could use them. They were patched up, 15 different sizes, and half rotted. I emailed the fundraising committee for my son's football team about donating them for the bonfire, and 2 father's actually helped me haul them to the bonfire site.
