It took a little scrubbing to get the grime off the chain, but the Oregon stamping did come through. I’m a fan of Oregon chains anyway.

Price went up a dollar and shipping was $16.69
If I wasn’t already familiar with this chain I wouldn’t pay that much. Still less than 2 RS chains. If I don’t run into a bunch of big logs full of metal those 2 chains should last me a while.

    Update from SawSuppliers:
I emailed them yesterday and got a response this morning. They told me to keep the 0.050 x 0.325 x 74DL chain and they're sending me the 0.063 I ordered. I can't complain about that deal, especially since this chain wasn't direly needed and will be my 4th 18" chain in rotation to use on my 029 super. I'm trying to find a home for the 0.050" chain now...

If you want this, just say the word and I’ll send it your way. Spare stuff I’ve had laying around forever not getting used. Should be able to resize it too.

IF you’re going to get into rolls or want the ability to adjust size, keep you’re eyes out for these:

Found them for a great deal. They’re the old skool good ones.

I don’t know if it was worth the trouble or not, but I went in and ground off the majority of the “top plate” section of the rakers. I probably could’ve taken a little more off but I had to be careful not to lose the preset height. Although this chain needs to be touched up, it appears to still have the factory grind. I flat filed all the drivers on this chain too. Yesterday I redressed the 18" bar that was on this saw, and reset the groove width. These drivers had burs on the edges that made the chain bind up in the bar. This should alleviate that.

Once again, that's a heck of an offer :handshake: I wonder if I can get away with picking up a small benchtop arbor press (which I've needed anyway) and mounting a removable punch on it to push the rivets out? As far as the tool for mushrooming the rivets goes, I tend to think I can make one without too much fussing around. This is really turning into a great learning experience for me overall. The more I think about making my own loops, the more it makes sense to me.

I just grind the heads off with an angle grinder then use a ball pein hammer to mushroom the new ones out. Takes a few minutes to do but it works well. Lots of light tap tap taps.
I finally did buy an archer spinner but don't plan on buy a breaker. The grinder works well.

I used to do bicycle chains that way many years ago.

The harbor freight combo is under $100 and works extremely well.

I looked at them Sunday. $75 isn't to bad. They are red at my store.

My (correct) chains arrived safely this morning. I’m really digging the look of this saw wearing a 24” bar

I’m thinking just bigger logs. I want to use this saw sparingly and not as a general work saw. But… we’ll see how much I like it once I really try it out. So far I’ve only made a couple cookie cuts with the 18” bar on a sugar maple log.

I had a 44 in that vintage. Great little saw. It was actually my first chainsaw.

Good to hear. My grandfather had this model 61 and a model 40, which my uncle still has. I think this is going to be a great saw for me. It’s got tons of compression and so far seems to run fantastic.

Did you use it a week ago or just the 029?

Just the 029 on the day we worked that locust score. I kind of had a feeling that would happen :emb: Once I get to work using one particular saw, I get tunnel visioned into staying with it. If my chain dulled out halfway I would’ve switched though.
