Another Tire Thread (with free shipping until 12/26)

There is a date code on all tires. Its after DOT and the first 2 numbers are the week they were made and the last 2 numbers is the year. So example a tire with code starting 1214 would mean 12th week of 2014.
Tires should be less than 7 years old I think 10 max for safety.
That said I have ordered a few tires from discounttiredirect. I want to say most tires are seldom more than a few months old that I have bought from there. I dont think anything older than 6 months. Thats 6 months from it coming out of the mold!!! Not sitting in their warehouse!! And the tire maker casts the code into the tire so discount can't monkey with that number at all.

 

Thats also not big!!! Haha I was thinking something truck size. Thats will more like honda accord size.

I would be very interested to see if you get remotely close to 90k miles out of them.

I bought a set of khumo solus kr21 tires from tires easy.com a few years ago. They said they were like 70k mile warranty tires. They lasted 1 year and 15k miles!!! This was on my highlander. They were installed at the toyota body shop and aligned there at the same time. I rotated them a few times. They just flat wore out. We dont hot rod it or take long highway trips. I towed a small trailer not even a thousand miles (think 4x8 with an atv) and a boat (3500#) to the lake a few times thats a 20 mile round trip.

I called and khumo said I had to have proof they were rotated and aligned. I told them I rotated them and did I have a log book?? I could of made one up but I said screw it I dont see this going anywhere or they will either just give me the same tires or pro rate the same tires or others!!! I did not want to be back in the same place in a year so I just said lesson learned. I use to like kuhmo...not anymore. Had it not been for a buddy getting me a set of wranglers for free that were taken off a jeep at his dealership I would not of let it go so easy.

 

Thats good to hear I am getting a set of hankook something or the other,dont recall now? For the Sequoia . I know a guy who sells tires and is getting them for me at his cost which is wholesale. I am looking forward to see how kong they last. Reviews of hankook is good and the tire I think I am getting was compared to Michelin in consumer reports if I remember what I read by someone somewhere?? Read so much trying to decide on which tires its a blur now.

I thought I did due diligence on the kuhmo as well. The note I looked after the more I saw people just like me that said the kr21 only lasted a year or 15k or so.

 

I went the frugal route ...and these were delivered today ... $476 to the door, 265/75/16 10 Ply load range E 3417lb per tire ... Now for some helper springs.

Anyone needing tires with sears automotive around, check them out. Last fall the 4runner needed tires. Got Falken wild peak ATRs in 265/70/r17 for like 125 a tire. We like them better than the pirelli scorpion atr's we had on the truck before. Those pirellis were like 180 each at tire rack and discount tire. The same falkens we bought at sears were at least 140 each online and then there was shipping. Free to store shipping at sears online.

 

Nice tire tune eighty. I wanted a nice looking AT tire like those but really want the wear of an HT tire so I going with a hankook HT. I want best mpg and wear.

 

Fwiw, we had kumho solus (60k tire) got 75k on them with sloppy rotation schedules. I ran kumho ecsta performance tires on my mustangs, and I got more than acceptable wear from them.

 

I have run the cheapest of cheap tires from khumo and got normal wear but go me tires that say 70k and in 15k are worn to the wear strips is not acceptable.
