More signs. In the last 2 weeks I've watched as both the beans and corn are beginning to ripen. Crops went in much earlier this year than normal so they will ripen sooner. I expect we will see some corn picked this year in September and I've seen that happen only once before around here. Some navy beans are already ripe and I've seen some fields of soys dropping leaves already.

Today marks the start of meteorological fall too. Official start of autumn is 9/22 this year or 3 weeks from today.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for another “real” winter this year, preferably one that wields at least one major storm that keeps me home from work for a day or two :) Meanwhile, this little guy is keeping an eye on my mixed stack of red and chestnut oak.

Mom said today that the holly tree/bush has the berries starting to ripen. I think it is a little early for our area. I hope we don't get a light snowfall or the birds will strip the berries before Christmas.

While colder temps are a comin', last week or so it was warm enough to have a major bloom of mosquitos here. Every time we walked through he yard, dozens would fly up out of the way. It was :bug:. Bring on that chill.

Same here. Warm spell and an abundance of rain and the mosquito population just bloomed exponentially. I jumped off my tractor to chase what I thought was a woodchuck through a raspberry patch and the number of mosquitoes I disturbed was shocking. We're back to needing DEET in the shade or even in the sun before 10AM or after 3PM if you want to be outside. This used to be the norm here all Summer long but the last few years due to droughts and defoliation(s) we've gotten spoiled with almost none.
