I always thought you might be a bit odd, and this confirms it. ;) Seriously, nice get. I've been using a couple splits of Silver under some big chunks of Oak that have a tendency to stall when I cut the air too far, if I load the chunks alone onto the coals. They must not be totally dry yet.

Great score my friend! I love silver maple for its fast drying and easy burning qualities. I've come to respect poplar for the same reasons. Even in round format it dries fast.

Nice catch of silver, thistle, and delivered to ya no less. Saved you a good bit of time and labor not having to fall and transport it. Silver is such a good component of the well rounded out species collection. Good that you insisted he accept the tip, most anyone can use extra cash these days.

Another 1.5 hours after a snack for lunch & long nap. Half way done with everything in 4 hours.57 right now so was a good day to sweat out a little.Would prefer upper 20's for this time of year, that's about normal for around here.Mid 50's tomorrow with good chance of rain, down to low 30's & possible snow on Tuesday.

Pic 007 is 1 nice bowl blank approx. 4.5 x 10 x 14 inches, roughed out & saved from the pile.Should be a couple more large ones & everything else is firewood. The Silver I got in Feb 2014 had more bigger rounds, ended up with about 2 dozen random sized blocks/slabs from that load.

I am so jealous!!! I've talked with all of the "tree outfits" that frequent my neighborhood about getting some "wood". They all say; "Yeah, yeah, yeah...........the next time we're here, we'll drop a load off."

To this date; it's yet to happen!!!

How do you like those twisty wedges? Do they work better than a normal one?

Yup the 2100CD PNW legend lol :dex: :saw:

I really like them, not cheap at all ($180 for all 3,two were on back order for almost 2 months, that's where some of the 2013 tax refund went ;)) but they work better than any other type of wedge I've ever used. Still managed to get one stuck last winter in some especially gnarly knotty crotch grain Silver Maple.:emb: That why I always use them in pairs ever since :hair:

Didn't do any processing today.Moved the bigger shorter rounds that are ready to split to south edge of driveway, have a pile of maybe 20 smaller extra long rounds that just need cut in the middle. They are piled up next to the 32" diameter White Oak chopping block.Swept up,shoveled all the chips, bark & a little dirt (about 2 wheelbarrows worth so far),scattered that over the paths around the various wood stacks.

Now I can at least turn around in the driveway again  I'll finish it in a couple days.

Between doing all that I helped neighbor move some wire shelving/standards/brackets (which he gave to me),air up tires in his older abandoned Jeep Cherokee so the new owner could tow it up the driveway to a flat bed truck. Neighbor & his wife are separated, may get back together but are selling the house & have lived apart for a month or so.Will keep in touch but gonna miss them.Since I've been watching over their 7yr old cat while they were gone so much lately, they told me I could keep him.So my 19 yr old cat has a new roommate (they were used to each other anyway, always got along fine). He was a stray that was wandering the neighborhood when not quite full grown, they adopted him shortly after they moved in. Didn't want to see him end up homeless, get run over in the street or taken to a shelter someplace. :)

    Getting closer....
About 3/4ths done now,the next few days will make for easier splitting, with the temps back down below freezing.Topped off the 1 stack, added a couple small piles of short chunks & uglies. Stack is just over 6 feet tall & 8 feet long.

Taking a break for a few days, another hour or so & it will be all finished.

A few more.....Pic 017 is my Supervisor.;) They are quite tame, can be barely 15 feet away splitting/stacking & they just keep on eating.I can normally get within a couple feet before hopping up on one of the stacks or running up a tree. One did set still for a bit when I was making a couple quick cuts yesterday afternoon, that surprised me.
