Did not need a bigger wood hauler. The frontier handled all I needed to carry. The kids did not fit in the back seat of the Frontier anymore. Started looking at full size pickups with crew cabs. Settled on a leftover Ram 1500 Sport 4x4 Crew. More engine than I probably need (5.7 Hemi), larger payload, and a good sized rear seat. My daughter in the new toy saying goodby to the old one, the boys are exploring the back seat. The new toy... I hope this one holds up as well as the last one... KaptJaq
Looks like it was well kept. Been there too. More people room . then Got a trailer so trips for wood were more productive. Waiting for "1st load" pictures
Now that is funny. Too much engine, money, or firewood. That just isnt going to happen. Congrats on the upgrade. I hope you enjoy it.
Sweet. Had two of them, a 2007 and a 2009. Both really liked gas. If you open up the exhaust add a cold air intake and chip it (2013 and newer already chipped earlier was 345 hp 2013 went to 390 hp), it will do better as long as you keep your right foot in check. But let me tell you, you will have no problem when you pull out to pass. Good luck.
Nice upgrade! I bought an 04' about 6 months ago and i love it. I just pulled 18.5mpg on my trip to central NY and blew out the stock muffler on the way home. Time to let her breathe!!
I bet that Ram looks so much more badazz in the driveway than the old frontier. sharp truck for sure congrats
Thanx everybody... Not anymore. They have spun Ram off into an independent line... The 2013 5.7 hemi combined with the 8 speed automatic is rated 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque with 15 city/22 highway mpg. Wish they had a standard shifter... SWMBO said no plow. When it snows she is taking it. It was the same with the Frontier 4x4. Any sloppy weather and her "all wheel drive" can sit in the driveway, she's taking the truck. Gotta go and fine some excuse to go for a ride... KaptJaq
This may sound odd KaptJaq, but let here know to be careful with all the power that thing has and the light weight in the azz end in all these trucks. So easy to lose it and start fishtailin with a truck if it is not in four wheel drive. (Then you have to be careful she doesn't leave it in four wheel when she is operating on mostly dry pavement and start wearing things out. ) I am surprised she does not like whatever "all wheel drive" she is driving when there is snow on the road. (What is it she has for an all whell drive? Most of them seem to work great in the snow with the right tires. Nice truck man!
The Frontier was light, had the larger 6 in it, and the long bed. It was a good "starter" truck. Learned real fast that it needed some weight in the "azz end". First sign of snow I would put 4 fifty pound bags of sand between the bed extender and the tailgate. Made a ton of difference on how she handled. Main differences between her Subaru all wheel drive and the truck are the size of the tires and the ground clearance. Unlike the Frontier, the Sport Ram has locked and unlocked 4 wheel drive. The "unlocked" is basically "all wheel drive", the "locked" is the off-road version. With the fat tires on there if you leave it in locked on dry road you know it the first turn. KaptJaq
I'm not trying to poke here, but a guy at work has a '13 Ram. He was pulling a travel trailer out near Yellowstone and burned 30 gallons of gas in 110 miles!!!
What config did he have, what was he towing, and and how did he treat the gas pedal? Yellowstone has some real hills... I haven't put the trailer on it yet but the mileage has been pretty good. Around the neighborhood, constant stop & go and hills, she averages about 13. On the parkway, 2 adults, 3 kids, and about 200 pounds in the bed, the average was more like 20. It had better sticker mileage than Ford or GMC I looked at but I didn't buy it for the gas mileage. It has the largest tank option, 36 gallons, so it has the range I need. KaptJaq
I'm not sure, but it is a good sized trailer but probably only weighs 6500 lbs but is like pulling a parachute. Same truck with the Hemi and tranny. I'm not sure how heavy the right foot was...
I have a trailer like that. I also have a truck that gets 6-7 MPG, loaded, empty, around town, uphill, downhill, Tuesday, Wed, whatever. So I load the h*** out of it. Gotta make it worth the fuel.
