Yes, it's a common scrounge and I love it because it's usually dead and dry when I find it, but I only take the small stuff I don't need to split more than once in half. The large wet stringy stuff is not meant for anything less than a 27 ton splitter and certainly not a maul which is all I have. I got burned bad with a face cord size load once and had to settle for bucking it into burnable disks. Still, Elm never disappoints in the stove.
