Another lamb arrived today

The lambs too milk from the bucket feeder today. Not sure if it was all four, but I think it was. That would decrease my work substantially. Here's a quick picture of the lambs in the field. I got 7 of the 9 lambs in this picture, plus two moms.

 

Once they get going, we’ve had good luck switching to goats milk and have also used Jersey milk.

 

A milk jug of ice in the feeder will keep the milk fresher and will slow them from overeating. Good idea to vaccinate them against overeating.

Edit: This is just me recalling past adventures - looks like you have a good handle on things.

 

Yes. That's exactly right. Ice for sure. Fortunately, both sets of twin got ample colostrum from moms, so CDT vacvine for overeating is as not urgent, but is probably a good idea. Thanks bud.

 

If the ewes were not vaccinated I wouldn’t place a lot of faith in their colostrum. We kept lambs on bottles most of the time in order to limit-feed them, but once we’d get beyond a certain number the self-feeder was wonderful. Most of our lambs came out of feedlots, so all bets were off in regards to colostrum.

 

All ewes were vaccinated 6-8 weeks before delivery. Either way, will definitely give them the vaccines, too.

Here's a yearling ram. He is still really gentle as you can see. He will get his chance to breed this fall.

 

A quick update - all 9 lambs are doing great. Here's some of them in the barn tonight during a rain shower.

 

I can tell they are not spoiled.

Looks like they are very healthy and growing fast.

 

Here's the two oldest lambs, born April 7th, almost 50# already, with their mom.

Some updated pictures of a couple of ewes and their lambs. The lambs are all between 7 and 10 weeks old right now and growing like weeds.

 

Man, those two in that second pic just look mischievous!

 

Another set of black grey twins from another ewe (in the back). These two are 9 weeks old.
